the only thing vaguely edible is a can of corned beef. all the other meat is frozen.

I once picked up a can of corned beef off a supermarket shelf.
It said: 77% beef.
I don't think I want to know what the other 23% is. ![]()

Probably preservatives.
I still have an unopened tin of Spam that was given to me as a souvenir when I toured the Hormel factory down in Austin, MN, back in the early 90s. I wonder if the "meat" inside is still edible. ![]()

The running joke is that Spam is so full of preservatives that it essentially has an unlimited shelf life if left unopened. Even though the special packaging marks it as a collector's item, I'm sorely tempted to open it up and see if in fact the meat is still safe to consume.

If the tin is not dented/rusted/otherwise damaged, the meat should be edible.
I remember reading about some scientists who opened a 120 year old can of beef and discovered that it was still in good condition.
