oh it's a very controversial topic I agree .... but I think it's something we must recognize ......
and eugenics is something instinctive too .... even the most primitive tribes recognize the dangers of inbreeding. Just look at the britsh royal family .... the young princes are handsome for sure, but they have the mental capacities of a suzuki instead of their father's aston martins. Take away their birth rights and they may just be brick layers or male models or something.
Unfortunately, society's egalitarian instincts forces us to think of eugenics as a dirty word.
What's even more unfortunate, I think, is that many couples that are the best equipped to be very good parents, not just in genes, but in finances and values, chose not to have kids ... I think they'll actually make very great parents ....

Housing price is crazy...... the median price for the property is about $400k.....
400k !!!!!
and the chap was trying to convince me that his new pad was only "average" ... he says it's a two house lot .....
but aiyah, nehmind .... chap's rich ... family here's helping him out with the house.
I was thinking, no way a single IT chap can rake in that kind of cash to afford a half mil house so quickly ....

IT get paid reasonably well over here. Also, if you are a first home buyer, you get some grant (think $6K) from the government. These days the bank is happy to loan you 100% or 95% of the cost.
yeah, he's tech support, not a conventional code monkey ....
I'm also quite surprised by the high interest rates.
it's more than double of what you can get from commercial banks here ... a reaction to the global crisis ? to prevent another mortgage crisis ?

the interest rate goes up and down depending on the reserve bank of Australia.
Sometimes people simply think that based on their income they can borrow xx amount so they will borrow it to the max. They forgot the fact that they still have to live so they ended up spending all their income in servicing the loan, leaving very little money for other expenses.
still in the office. tired and fed up. things went downhill just before lunch.

These musings sound very similar to LKY's speech, which led to the controversial graduate mother scheme.
time to go to work...
going earlier today to figure out how long it takes by public transport from west to east
At St John's Island now....
In today's news, players of both S-League clubs that got involved in the Royal Rumble bust-up got punished pretty severely.... all got fined at least $1000, and several players got banned from football for several months.
While I agree that it takes both hands to clap, and the Young Lions are just as guilty, I believe that Beijing club should be thrown out of the league once this season is over, and all PRC clubs be banned from joining the league from this point on.

I'd say there's a flaw in that reasoning, Fatum. There's yet to be any particularly compelling research that demonstrates the link between genetics and intelligence. Hell, Spearman suggested the concept of g more than a century ago and nobody's yet been able to measure it. Bottom line is that notwithstanding the political incorrectness of the concept, we still don't know enough to "breed for intelligence".

I think one big problem is that most people also think they are the 'intelligent' portion of the population.. :P so who decides who is 'qualified' to breed? What sort of tests can assess both IQ and EQ?

Case in point: the fat cat ministers in the upper echelons of the Singapore government who, for all their alleged academic and scholastic qualifications and achievements, continually exhibit gross incompetence in the establishment and administration of public policy.
