Somehow I find myself agreeing with what that comic is saying..... We tend to blow things out of proportion.
I remember reading about a study where one university student was made to wear a super-uncool Barry Manilow T-shirt around campus for one day. ![]()
He was asked to estimate the number of people who was making fun of him for his shirt, while the researchers went around surveying people about the shirt. It was found that the student severely overestimated the number of people who actually noticed him wearing that uncool shirt.
Closer to home, a friend of mine in sociology once told me about a similar experiment they once did where he and a few others had to walk around campus barefooted for a day.
They found that almost no one noticed. ![]()
if you have time, you should go read that comic.. it's damned good..
they call themselves "Subnormality, Comix with too many words since 2007"
Here we go.... that Barry Manilow experiment I was talking about.....

Okay, I was a bit off (it was just one room and not one campus), but the idea is there. Simply put, there's no point in being too self-conscious.... everyone else is being so self-conscious that they don't really care about you.

Well, I got so pissed off with one I told her.
"I don't know what you're trying to insinuate. Are you trying to tell me that I'm supposed to lose weight?"
You should see the shocked look on her face.

Cinderella? she's a wimp...

Friend just sent me this video : Its about a grocery clerk with special needs and how people respond when they see another person abusing him.
It's heartache to see people just swallowing the shit up without standing up for the guy....
