  I gotta agree with the article..... many students don't seem to understand the difference between getting a degree and getting an education.

  I get this sort of nonsense in the end-of-semester feedback from my students. For instance, half the class will compliment me for briefly discussing lecture concepts during my lessons to help them refresh and reinforce what the lecturer taught them.

  The other half will be, like, 'This tutor wastes too much time discussing concepts we already know! Why he can't just give us the tutorial solutions?'

  In other words, the good students want me to give them an education.

  The bad students just want me to be a glorified tape recorder.

  why do i have this feeling it is why we're getting recruits who are useless, pointless and almost afraid to do their work?
