It appears that one of the MPs was fiddling with her handphone in the middle of the National Anthem.

Frankly, I wasn't convinced of the photo until I saw this: Video of the incident.
Look like some serious thumb-fiddling there.
i didn't watch the thing.. but can someone tell me why there was a drag act in the damned NDP thing?
well, at least they got gurmeet instead of kumar ....
neways this year's a massive disappointment ....
I gave up watching halfway and went out for ice cream with fatumnette instead ,,,,
probably have to wait till the new national stadium is ready before we can expect a good NDP show again ...

This yr's NDP is horrible
the Beatrice Chia-Richmond scary woman should be fired with extreme prejudice
and SAF should court-martial those who lied and tekan those who turned the organisation of the thing into a giant fustercluck
Okay, with regards to that MP who was looking at her phone during the National Anthem?
It turns out that she was, by her own admission, posting on her Facebook account.
To quote her:
"I was so caught up in the wonderful NDP 2011 and felt so proud of being a Singaporean, that I wanted to capture that moment of pride, at the very tail end of the anthem, to share on FB with my residents. If in my enthusiasm I offended anyone, please accept my apologies. NDP is a time to unite not divide. Majulah Singapura."
Seriously, WTF. Even back in secondary school, if you were to so much as fidget around and scratched your thigh during the national anthem, you're gonna get hell from the discipline master.
And during BMT, we had flag raising/lowering ceremonies on the first day of our ten-day outfield. One fella who was caught fidgeting by his PS got tekaned like hell and got turn-out parade (Smart 4, boots polished) three times a day for the next ten days. Considering that that outfield was Cat 1 for nine out of the ten days, that was hell.
Oh, and he said goodbye to several of his weekends.
i even stood at attention when the Thai national anthem was played prior to the run on sunday. heck, i even bow to the pic of the king before accepting my prize. lest i offend anyone.

Perhaps, we must make it compulsory that all MPS must serve NS, regardless of gender, race, language or religion!
At least the basic of standing still to show respect to the flag, anthem and nation as common sense should be present for them. Wait.. Perhaps their common sense is not that common after all.... :D

Even foreign students stand to attention during flag raising/lowering ceremonies. They just don't sing the anthem or recite the pledge, that's all.
I also get reminded of the time I was at a pasar malam in Chiangmai a few years ago. At 6 pm, the Thai national anthem started playing on the radio and everyone on the street froze.
After the initial shock, my friends and I all stood to attention. The last thing you want is to show a blatant sign of disrespect in a crowded marketplace.
I really cannot accept the MP's behaviour, especially since it was outright Facebooking and not just some minor scratching on the thigh.
can someone give me a summary on the parade? i didnt get to watch.
Good afternoon. Today's lesson commences after 6pm.![]()
As for the MP....her excuse makes it even worse. FB more important than anthem?
When I was serving the nation, even if we were caught in the open with our barang, we were expected to keep stock still. Heck, even the banglas we used to excort would do the same.
So... what should we do with this Penny Low? It's quite clear that our lee-duhs don't even bother to make believable lies anymore.
On another note, I wonder if people know they're supposed to take off their hats and caps (but not military berets) when national anthems are played.

Any case, seems like the Cathay saga. The woman said they're couples. In reality the pilot is apparently to be married.
She resigned immediately. The pilot is still on duty.
Just for 1 stupid act, there goes a job held for 9 yrs.
was at a client's 7th month celebrations ....
all the banglas and staff were around ..... there was free flow beer and ......
one of the FWs groped the breast of one of the female clerks ........

and of course .... the man becomes a hero ... the woman becomes a slut ....
usually the woman would resign also, cos if they really go dig who the pilot and if he's really married..
