people have learnt that the hard way
Beyond just the fun of it, I won't dream of pushing these ideas to people.
Still, some of the results were really intriguing. Like why people are willing to pay for insurance, why people slave for certs which teach them nonsense (like I do)....very fascinating.
But the answers are never complete. That's why there are other social sciences to try to plug the gaps, though try as they might, human ingenuity ultimately truimphs.

go spend OUR TAXPAYERS' MONEY on some double-decked buses instead
Tough luck dude.
Latest we heard from those people who camp at the bus depots is that a new bendy is being assembled for trial.
Bendies are just not the way to go, but still they persist.

I just watch South Park Season 15, Episode "The Last of the Meheecans"...
Which led me to think... In our over reliance on FT to fuel our economic and menial jobs, what if one day they all just quit and leave???
-____-
I figured there's also little respect to each other's job and role...
still pissed off that after years and years of financial sodomy by the bus companies, the MIW are going to give them $1.1 billion for new equipment
this is after more than a decade of obscene profits
Woodlands Bus Int's bloody mess is all thks to bendy buses..
Ah Bear, the thing is, that S$1.1bn is equally useless... Cos the mess today is also created by them...
It's the efficiency as in routing of buses (simi no duplication w/ MRT), those that have no real money value that's really need to be looked in..
But zheng hu scholars only can see physical money terms
I think I've better share this..
I've ever heard from LTA is that, they rather have more frequent buses using single decks than deploying double decks

If you look at the wider picture, we are also very reliant on foreign capital.
And how much home-grown technology/company do we really have??
Its just gonna collapse and all should these FDI leave, along with FT.
Govt has recognised that (finally) and is trying to encourage SME although, its really really late by now.

I would rather they spend my money and force them to take in these buses, otherwise SMRT will NEVER improve.
At least SBST side I have few complaints. Besides, their profits have been low in recent years due to fleet upgrade. Its very very visible these days.
It really is SMRT that has all the nonsense.

SME are also squeezed by the zheng hu co also...
Our society needs ppl who set up their own biz... Can be anything as long as it's legal.
But they dun seem to understand..
ROC is a good example
As someone who has access to all the figures, its a pretty gloomy picture I see with regards to Singapore's case.
Much of our advantage in being the pioneer in an export-led strategy is less relevant now.
Yet you see that the scholars still believe that we should still persist in making ourselves attractive to foreigners.
Never mind that we SGreans might be at the short straw. Never mind that we'll most probably still lose out to the neighbours in more ways than one.
Export must still do, cos we need money for imports.
But thing is, what kind of investment do we want?
Export will always be our life-line.
But to maintain our attractiveness for foreigners to pour money in, we are literally putting ourselves at the mercy of the world powers.
This is a big drawback and the base of many of our problems, including apathy, lack of identity, etc etc.
This is the unfortunate side-effect of the pursuit of $$$.
It's all to do w/ education...
We didn't educate a generation properly, I mean beyond academically...
It's too academically driven now. People has forgotten how to be the simple, honest person.
Anyway, I think some ppl are beginning to see the problems w/ bus ops.. The routing system.
If people are to take buses, first of all some of the services need to speed up la.
Its true that taking bus can be time-wasting, and that's because the buses like to CRAWL half the time.
A lot of students don't know why they are studying.
But I understand why they are like that. I was like that till JC and NS.
ah dang, why did the discussion went back to buses

Eh, tat's one part.. dun you realise the MRT caused the creation of ultra long bus routes that's practically operationally inefficient..
Say Sv 143... Bus from Toa Payoh depart for working crowd at 6:30am, by the time it reaches Zoorong... It's useless alrdy for the return leg.
As for education, I figured it's like macham teaching everything is cert and grades that count, your mind is second...
ok.. I think can create a stupid bus thread on the inefficiency...
Looks like there's some things tat can take this opportunity to clean up...

taxpayer money funding a public listed company with all profits going to the company and its shareholders.
isn't this corruption?
Thing is, firstly can you even get the drivers.
Even the wages?
In the first place, I've no idea abt the 800 buses and tat $1.1bn, because the problem with the tpt routing system has to be reviewed, and use of bigger buses than single decks for most bus svs.
Also I've this to say, is SBS's bus ops making profit in the past 2 years?
The MRT profit is all because the gabrament spents the heafty upfront, else think why MTR is forced to develop properties at their MTR station in order to keep upfloat in the starting years in particular.
av, you also kena played with the system until you've no idea with what's going on elsewhere around the world.

Is this $1.1 billion a loan or a gift? I'll be disgusted if it's the latter.
