Never eaten before, but if it's one of those new fangled tau huey, I don't think it's that healthy due to the cogulant and other stuff they add in
well, my equipment's been combat tested .......
go try ....
they are not your standard issue wet market tau huay ....
you can't just eat one ....

Tried before
It taste more like a pudding
There's a stall in Bt Merah View that sells black tau huay. It's actually greyish but I wonder how that's achieved. It claims to use organically-grown beans too...
it's the coconut milk powder they put inside .....

Molecular gastronomy has come to Asian cuisine?
I actually prefer the firmer tau huay.

They use black soybeans
Actually black soybean milk and tau huay is very common in Taiwan
there's one with sesame paste, is that the one you're talking about ?

Some use coffeemate
Which was why I said earlier you're better off eating the traditional types

palm oil dude.. reconstituted palm oil
lots of things out there are not what they seem..
just like "Buttercup Spread" is margarine made from palm oil...
the "cheese" in the nachos at the cinemas and other places isn't cheese but chemicals
the "chicken nugget" is some ammonia-bleached pink-dyed goo
the expensive steak may be cheap off-cuts glued together with meat glue
the "cheese slices" are around only 51% cheese, the rest being chemical crap to make it smooth
the grated cheese in the bags are mixed with wood powder to prevent it from reforming into a lump...
need i go on?

just appears slightly greyish...
taste-wise, no difference if it's done the same way locals here eat the stuff.. which is to totally submerge it in way too much sugar syrup
Originally posted by Kuali Baba:Really? I never noticed that when I was there.
Yes really
They believe black soybeans are more nutritious than white soybeans too

Ya man. The consistancy and taste is more like pudding than tau huey
Just that instead of milk, you use soymilk nia.
If it is the traditional tau huey can do what Bear and I do and use it with savoury soups and sauces as a tofu substitute
