The beauty of the distance-based fare is that I can just hop out of the bus when I feel like eating, and then hop onto another bus and the fare carries on!

I can also take the bus to my destination, get my stuff done quickly and take the train home on a single trip. If one plans his/her trip there are substantial savings to be had.

Indeed. Travelling was made so much more flexible with the fare system. Except the higher flag-down rate makes me hesitate to take short bus-rides, but I can do with that if it means cost-savings for the longer-haul hourneys.
