I end up hardly use 3G outside... Only for iris or checking some info that's urgently needed at that point of time... Not surprised, ever see ppl [but dunno is it downloading at the same time] watching youtube etc on the move...

be it downloading or streaming, the transfer of data is the same... Even for youtube, the video must stream to your phone app... For download, U need to transfer the data to your phone... But consist of using data, just that when u download, u might dl a "better quality" file thus file size can be bigger...Check out the youngsters... Nowadays everything must tweet, instagram whatever food they eat, facebook watever single thing, one shot upload soooo many photos to cloud, media storage etc etc... and the list goes on extremely long...

I think it's instragram or some other app that you can choose to "backup" ur file into the "cloud storage" etc etc... and there are things like push mails/notifications etc etc...
such things add up to traffic over time, and when population density is thick enuff, the infra cannot sustain...
For example, 10 years ago, new year countdown... Try sending sms or making call during then... The band is so choked full of traffic that sms and calls most failed to go thru...
Even recently, try making calls at SITEX...

And back then, no one knows that stuff like facebook, internet on mobile and social media would cause data usage to balloon all over the world... U look at some tech giants record of the data storage of the world, the growth is insane >___>

My contract is up for renewal next month.
