I say this because my friend is caught in a pretty similar situation and the amount is much more than $11,000 and she don't need to prostitute herself to pay off the debt. Of course it will take her a long time to do so but she has not considered this option yet. -

we have lost our jobs to so many foreigners, who every employer regard as princely or god sent then we are treated like second class citizens, there is no welfare system that will allow her to get any benifit because its a personal loan and anyways her fater working what.

Local Uni student in need of money has to do this kind of work to pay off her tuition fees and her family's debts. And what is the government doing? Paying the PRCs to come here and study and live off us, snatch away the good grades and live good lives.
Moreover, china ppl tend to be poorer in social graces yet the government decides to support these foreigners as compared to the Singaporeans who are struggling and trying so hard.

I find the story alittle difficult to stomache too. Straight into prostitution? The landlord wasn't demanding the entire $11,000 immediately. Of her earnings so far she only paid a third to the landlord. Like some forumites have pointed out, she could have given tuition, which can bring in quite a lot of $. The pimp she met gave her an alternative - she could have tried being a social escort who offered just companionship for a start. But she chose to become a call girl coz it paid the most, fastest.
