Loud farts released in greater flow but concentration of the contaminants gets diluted when it is presented at such high exit velocities and hence also explains for the sound..
Softer farts.. released in smaller flows but higher concentration. Low exit velocities inhibits anal lip flapping and hence has less sound during emission.. -

My fren's explanation :
When its loud, its often odourless coz there's no shxt blocking "the way" so it dashes out fast & strong.
If its smelly, its becoz gas have to "weave" thru the shxt blocking along "the way" to exit
slow & soft.. sometimes HOT. -
