the important thing is never forget your roots! understtanding that we may be working with many ppl wround the globe whom may not understand chinese, chinese have to adpot an english name in front so that when being addressed to , we know who has be referred. many chinese ppl working overseas do that and i have nothing uncomforttable with it. back home thei parents and relatives still refer to them as the chinese name they have at home.
but then why indians have to use those "a" "b" and "c" in their names too? don't they have some form of character inscriptions to depict their own names instead of using abc

Indians originally had no family names. It is not uncommon to see them having "son/daughter of X" as thair last names. Those with western-sounding last names are most likely Christian converts. chinese names get butchered by the ang moh tongues and I get asked shallow questions about chinese names. I really can't explain the subtleties of the culture and the origin of my name without talking about the history and my roots which the other cutlure will again be butchered due to the lack of an open mind. At this point in order to save some breath and save some embarassment for the ang moh, I just make things simply and try to ask the question back to the ang moh and pretend I am interested. Then with the aid of technology and more advanced militaries the west overtook China. Now the wheel is turning the other way.
