I know this is stupid. But what happens if you inject water into your veins intravenously? Or any other foreign matter for that matter?

erm i'm guessing that would land you into hospital if you were doing it on your own with you own needle. btu actualyl inject water if nto too much is ok one if i remember correctly

Injection is done with Sterile Saline not without a reason. If the water isn't sterile, you'll get an infection of the vein meaning your vein will swell, muscle swell and stiffen and experience cramps. If you inject air, you'll experience swelling and after that, most likely cramps as well. The most you just stay one day in Singapore General Hotel for observation. But, if you inject other substances which are considered non-sterile and with bacterials, can go book a 6 walled wooden box.

Inject Air doesn't mean immediate death. During transfusion/drip, when the container is empty, you get air inside your vein. That only causes swellings and pain and not death. i dont really prime my fluids perfectly and when i infuse myself with NS....there aare air bubbles in it...i'm still alive though... -
ure body is a vacuum...introduce air inside...and it will upset the pressure...

Most of the time a little air in your veins will not be a prob but if massive it can cause air embolism, causing a clot - juz like a blood clot and u may die due to insufficient circulation to that area
