Einstein had 10 lovers, letters show
SCIENTIST Albert Einstein was apparently well-schooled in the art of love.
Letters unsealed by the Hebrew University in Jerusalem revealed the Nobel Prize winner's penchant for extramarital affairs.
In the more than 1,300 letters written between 1912 and 1955, the year he died, Einstein often made no bones about discussing his romantic liaisons with his second wife Elsa.
The German-born scientist is known to have had 10 lovers, in addition to two women he married after affairs with them, said Ms Barbara Wolff, an archivist at the university's Einstein Archives.
Among his paramours were a Margarete, an Estella, two Tonis and a Betty, who sailed, read books, attended concerts and more with him, archivists told a news conference on Monday.
They said Einstein discussed his dalliances openly with his second wife and cousin Elsa, as well as his stepdaughter and confidante Margot.
However, he was sometimes on the receiving end of more than ardent affection.
One letter to Margot in 1931 complained that 'Mrs M.' - Berlin socialite Ethel Michanowski - 'followed me (to England), and her chasing me is getting out of control'. -- ASSOCIATED PRESS
