How early can I take a test to determine if I caught HIV?
1 week, 3 months , 6 months and 1 year.
Do the test every year if you are having multiple sex partners. If you have had unsafe sex or your condom was torn - there are antiviral medications available for you as a preventive but it does not guarantee you won't have HIV.
They will automatically do a Western Blot test if you are positive so that you have to pay for.
All HIV cases will have to be reported under communicable disease notification act. You will be given counsellling prior to the test. If you are positive , you will undergo another series of counselling. Contact tracing will also occur . You will have to inform Public Health Officials of who you had sex with.
