It about the future of the children.Originally posted by gasband:Just because Govt ask us to give birth to more babies...teens should be allowed to watch porn? Anyway, it doesnt mean that almost everyone has watch porn before makes it right for teens to possess them. If we adopt an "oh they gonna get it off the net anyway, give them a break lah" attitude, what kind of message are we sending out? One that couldnt care less? As what someone in the press said, if today for example, the Minister for Health does not wash his hands after going toilet at home, its his own problem. But if he were to come out to the public, he would have to tell everyone that the right thing to do is to wash their hands after going toilet. It is a responsibility. SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY. It is a SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY for the principal to weed out the underlying threat. It is not just that VCD the student had. This incident has brought many issues to light, didnt it? VCD Peddlers trying to get their way into schools. If the police were not called in, such things would never surfaced and one day, VCDs will be found all over the school, then a parent finds out, complain why the SCHOOL NEVER do anything in the first place, what would people say then? If this did not happen in the school, it maybe not within its jurisdiction but it did happened in the school, and the school has the right to uphold its SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY to the rest of the students and their parents.
Anyway, i tot the parents were more concerned about their 'FACE' more than the calling in of the police.
Cheers.
want to track down where the vcd came from, not neccessarily mean that police haf to be called in.Originally posted by lolsuck:i think she called the police bcos they wanted to trackdown where the vcd came from... anyway that make the sch "famous" its good it made into the headlines..thats waht she wants..
the sch has a social responsibility to educate the students... i am nt saying calling the police is wrong... but is tat the BEST way to educate them on porn?Originally posted by gasband:Just because Govt ask us to give birth to more babies...teens should be allowed to watch porn? I personally have also been caught in school with 10 porno tapes ... ( I am 43 this year, so at that time no VCD). During my time, the policeman all don give a dam.... so I am quite lucky .. my principal was very good she just gave me a warning and told me not to bring to school.... wanna do this kind of things, "after school" she said.
I said okay and walked off her office as if nothing had happened...... but my teacher who caught was not so forgiving. She exposed me infront of all my classmates.... although I got a couple of cheers and a hero's welcome from most of my male classmates, but the females all see me in a different light now...... even those that previously were in love with me .. avoided me ..... sianz !!!
But after tat, I had to pick myself up and start fishing at other schools lor..... wat to do .... a man's gotta do what a mans gotta do .
YES. To educate them on porn, a good way is to let them know the reality of it being illegal. That is totally different from sex education. We cannot assume that everyone who brings porn to school is in need of sex education. We can educate them about sex but will that stop them or even scare them from at least bringing porn to the public? Alot of people are educated in sex, but do we see people buy or watch lesser porn just because of sex education? Yes, sex education is important but that is altogether a different matter from making them realise that porn is illegal in Singapore. As for the future of the children, they were not even given a criminal record..so why should their future be affected?Originally posted by weidev:the sch has a social responsibility to educate the students... i am nt saying calling the police is wrong... but is tat the BEST way to educate them on porn?
so in ur opinion... as long as anything against the law happens in sch it shd be reported to the police? so if a student copies during exam he shd be reported to the police for cheating? if a student photocopies an entire textbook to save money he shd be reported to the police due to copyrights? if 2 friends are having fun n one of them accidentally gt hit by the other the friend shd be arrested by the police for assult? if guys playing basketball n took off their shirt they shd be arrested for indecent exposure?Originally posted by gasband:YES. Porn to certain extent is sex education, but great danger lies in the obessive nature for it. One could be turned into a rapist if too much is involved and became addicted. It could turn a normal person into someone that he himself no longer knew before. In my point of view, police will only handle legal issue of porn but in the area of the sexual health of the students, u need professional doctors to take care of them. It is a medical and mental health issue of growing people, if un-taken care of, they will still go back to it after sometime.Originally posted by My Intimate Care:Do you think the Principal is correct to call the police to catch the students?
I personally thinks its not correct. And its over-reacting and bad handling by the principal.
What do you all think?
Where do you draw the line then? Calling the police is not necessarily bad. Is this how we look at the police? The police serves as a deterrence rather than just a fear tactic.Originally posted by weidev:so in ur opinion... as long as anything against the law happens in sch it shd be reported to the police? so if a student copies during exam he shd be reported to the police for cheating? if a student photocopies an entire textbook to save money he shd be reported to the police due to copyrights? if 2 friends are having fun n one of them accidentally gt hit by the other the friend shd be arrested by the police for assult? if guys playing basketball n took off their shirt they shd be arrested for indecent exposure?
it is a sch for goodness sake. unless the students committed something really bad such as raping a gal in sch, knifing a student and arson den i think yea this student deserves to be handed over to the police... if nt i feel there is no need to alarm the police at all regarding small matters...
calling the police is nt bad in this case? one of the boys is at home nw wondering if he will be charged. if he is ever convicted in court his future will nt be glorious anymore. if he is nt convicted yes it is nt a criminal record... but there will always be a police report AGAINST him.Originally posted by gasband:Where do you draw the line then? So if you wanna bring so many scenarios in, may i ask you what is REALLY BAD? Where do you draw the line? If today they watch porn, tomorrow they peep at a girl in the toilet, is that REALLY BAD or are they JUST CURIOUS, so we should let them go? Then what should we do when they go on to try what they see in the porn video? REALLY BAD or CURIOUS? If your definition of REALLY BAD is that it harms another person, then how do we know another person is not harm in this case? If someone did not initiate watching the porn, maybe another guy who have no access to this VCD wun watch it. Again, calling in the police is NOT necessarily a bad move if we see it as a deterrence. When we hear neighbours quarrel until very heated and making alot of noise, we sometimes fo call police. Police comes, warns them, they stop. Its deterrent. Its not a criminal record.
Anyway, its true most of us have watch porn before. But in this case, it uncovered the truth that porn pirates are trying to sell its way into schools. Is that a concern for you or is it "Ah, its ok."
