Would people laught at me if I spray paint my rims?

  I have an old car which I would like to customise. I thought of spray painting my rims to add a distinctive look. However, I am not sure if this would only cause my rim to look worse.
  
  Any advise from the brothers and sisters here?
  Has anyone out here tried this before?
  Would people laugh at me if I spray paint it myself?
  Is there a recommended brand of spray paint?
