for coffeeshop worker
What a lucky gift!
A COFFEESHOP aunty working in Yio Chu Kang is Monday's winner of the top Toto prize of $2,866,395.
Her identity came to light when a customer at the coffeeshop heard the winner shouting for joy when she learnt about her big win on Monday night.
But the lucky woman did not buy her winning Toto ticket.
A fellow worker, a cleaner, had bought several Toto and 4-D tickets and had won a small fortune from one of the 4-D tickets on Sunday, reported Shin Min Daily.
She was so pleased that she gave the coffeeshop aunty one of her Toto tickets on Sunday.
The Toto ticket had been purchased for $2 with four sets of predictions. One group of numbers matched the six winning numbers and took the top prize.
The coffeeshop aunty, in her 50s, had never expected her luck to be so good. She was so excited by her windfall that she could not fall asleep the whole of Monday night, said Shin Min.
The next day, she went personally to the Singapore Pools office at Paradiz Centre, Selegie Road, to collect her prize money.
To show her gratitude, the coffeeshop aunty gave $5,000 in a red packet to the cleaner who had given her the winning Toto ticket.
A stall owner and regular customers at the coffeeshop confirmed that she was indeed the top prize winner.
Singapore Pools traditionally does not reveal any information to protect the privacy of customers.
Mr Huang, a regular customer of the coffeeshop, told Shin Min that he witnessed the winner's moment of joy and even saw her winning ticket with his own eyes.
He said: 'The coffeeshop aunty gripped the Toto ticket tightly. Her hands were trembling with excitment.
She shouted and jumped for joy, and told everyone present her good news. Her happiness infected us as well.'
Mr Huang said most people would not dare to announce that they had won a top prize, but the coffeeshop aunty was unable to curb her joy.
'Now that everyone in the coffeeshop knows she won the Toto prize, news has spread to the nearby residents too.'
After the coffeeshop aunty collected her prize money, she is said to have calmed down.
Hearing that that she has become the talk of the neighbourhood, she decided not to return to work at the coffeeshop.
The winning Toto numbers were 1, 7, 18, 28, 29, 40, and the extra number was 8.
FIRST TIME
This is the first time the Toto outlet, located within the Shop N Save at Kovan Centre in Yio Chu Kang, has sold tickets yielding more than a million dollars in prize money.
The Toto outlet has been in business for about two years, but this is the first time it has sold a winning ticket.
The coffeeshop aunty is the only winner of the $2,866,395 top prize.
The second prize was shared among seven winners and each person gets $82,648.
Each of the 414 winners of the third prize will get $1,398.
