Prisoner's appeal for early release turned down
Romanian convicts who appealed to get out of jail on the grounds they needed to have sex with their wives to stop them having affairs have had their request turned down.
A judge who looked at the case said the fact a prisoner's wife was cheating on him did not qualify as a reason for compassionate release.
The three men at the state prison in Botosani in eastern Romania had all put in the applications citing "family problems" as the ground for compassionate release to the governor.
The men admitted that they had no evidence their wives were cheating on them, but were convinced that if left alone any longer the frustration would force them to be unfaithful, if they were not already, local media reported.
In his application one detainee wrote: "I cannot bear the thought that my wife is cheating on me in my own house. I beg you to let me go home."
Under Romanian law prisoners in jail for minor offences who do not represent a threat to the public can have early release if they have urgent family problems to solve.
The appeals court in Botosani turned down the requests. The Justice Ministry had earlier said adultery is not specified as a reason for parole.
i think the judge is smarter than that...
