Perth's Ford Falcon cabs come with automatic transmission.Originally posted by Volvo Olympian:Why taxis cannot have automatic gear?![]()
Simple. The boot is more spacious.Originally posted by TIB1133B:If like 950 says, the Crowns are better looking, why does Premier Taxis still bring in a fresh batch of Cedrics? Also Citycab acquired more of this type lately.
They are dying out. Last time I came back, their numbers were so few.Originally posted by Volvo Olympian:The Toyota Corona looks small..but is very good.
Dying?..hope not so soon.I luv them.Originally posted by iveco:They are dying out. Last time I came back, their numbers were so few.
Yes..Singapore is the only country got cedrics.Originally posted by sbst275:If I am not wrong, Cedric is somewhat only in SG right?
If I could remember, it is made by ST Kinetics... The other parent co of CityCab... But as a shareholderOriginally posted by Volvo Olympian:Yes..Singapore is the only country got cedrics.
Seems that the Crown has design flaws (heavy front end) that makes it prone to skidding. The Cedrics are more stable as the weight is evenly balanced on both the front and rear.Originally posted by seancannot:Just want to highlight the handling characteristics of Toyota Crown... they are very prone to skidding..infact its well known in the taxi trade, cedrics is not as bad.Due to front heavy and back light design and those skinny tyres of Crown. We have infact deflate the tyres slightly to avoid skidding
There was once, raining, I was going up the straight slope on PIE doing about 80kmh.. I apply my brake gently as there was a jam ahead....guess what !!! the whole cab skidded fortunately I was able to regain control in time!!
There was another time this crown was infront of my van at paya lebar where the road were pave with metal plate due to MRT construction .. raining again... this crown was going very slowly as it is a bend, probably 30 Kmh or less , however it still skidded and hit the barricade.. there is nothing this poor guy could do!!
i used to drive a toyota Hiace for work I would say the handling of my hiace van is much better and safer than a crown sedan. as I did not encounter any form of skidding before. Come do think of it, I actually prefer driving a Hiace than a Crown!!
This bring me to conclude if the cab companies do not address this problem it is not going to bring the accident statics of the Taxi industry down
!!
I've seen early model Cedrics in HK serials before.Originally posted by sbst275:If I could remember, it is made by ST Kinetics... The other parent co of CityCab... But as a shareholder
How does it look like?Originally posted by iveco:I've seen early model Cedrics in HK serials before.
Actually, those are Datsun Cedrics. Prominent in the 1980s.Originally posted by Volvo Olympian:How does it look like?
I actually brought up to my Taxi company about the design flaws while attending a safety course.... Guess what they tell me they are aware of this problem yet there nothign much they can do!! And we just have to accept this as part of the deal!!Originally posted by iveco:Seems that the Crown has design flaws (heavy front end) that makes it prone to skidding.
