Yup..Nissan + Datsun = NissanOriginally posted by sbst275:Thought aren't they the same? I mean Datsun was Nissan's predessor?

So u mean the older ones is nicer?Originally posted by hseochin:Compared to the newer & current ones, the Toyota Crowns (with the M-B like rear lampset) from the 80's era i find much more likeable than those nowadays.
Unlike the present junky ones, these 80's era Crowns i find them much more quieter & less vibrasive & harsh, especially with the T-bar automatic gearbox, which SBS did have a few units with. Performance is slow but what impressed me is that for its time being a diesel car, it was on the 'quiet' side of things, like the M-B diesel taxis of that era. The engine bulkhead insulation i believe was much better than the newer Crowns later on.
Overall find the old 80's Crown a better balanced car than the new ones !
The new ones look ugly (although space functional) have limited performance with high NVH (noise vibration harshness) levels & too spartan interior trim etc. In essence, big car yes but a lousy junky one more fit for the scrapyard than on the roads here !
The current Nissan Cedrics appears less spacious but looks more 'normal' but has the same 'old type' diesel engine 'problems' of high NVH levels with low performance. Suspension ride comfort of both about same i.e. not to European standards of course.

I can't remember how the 1980s Toyota Crowns looked like. If I'm not wrong, there were two versions, weren't there? Anyway, the Crowns disappeared for a while, only to reappear from 1994 onwards with a different look.Originally posted by hseochin:Personally i'll still prefer their older ones those from the 80's era with M-B like rear lampsets (with automatic or manual gearboxes though i prefer automatic) as overall those appear overall more 'refined' cars than the present ones !

Manual gear maintenance lower .Originally posted by Volvo Olympian:Why taxis cannot have automatic gear?![]()
Well..i Do See a television programme and in Japan they show a Nissan Cedric (simirlar to SG) but the Doors were fully automatic and they use the auto gear and the auto lock.Originally posted by Poolman:Manual gear maintenance lower .
Gear box for auto cost a bomb to maintain .

Crown is overall lighter than Cedric . In terms of cornering , Cedric is safer than Crown . Crown tends to swerve a bit when cornering . Due to it's light weight .
In engineering terms , Crown needs another 30 kg at the rear to have a better balance .
Crown has better pick up .
Due to it's electronic fuel injection , Crown has a relatively smoother pick-up , without too much jerks ! Only the 3.2 litre Cedric has those fuel injection thing .
In terms of interior , Crown has a broader space behind , comapre to Cedric , which is much lesser leg space .
Crown's boot is good for luggage , 'cos it not really deep inside . Cedric tends to have a deeper boot , which tends to have problem with bulky luggages.
Crown engine is more durable , less smoke omission . Cheaper to maintain , due to it's cheaper parts than Cedric's !

It's the same la . Diesel or petrol . The machinism is there .Originally posted by hseochin:So you're saying the Cedric diesel taxis here does NOT have fuel-injection ??
Then how is the fuel administered since it's obviously diesel not petrol engine ??
Originally posted by Poolman:It's the same la . Diesel or petrol . The machinism is there .
When you accelerate , it manually transmit the fuel into the engine for Cedric . The more you accelerate , the most fuel used .
Electronic fuel injection is about fuel tranmission fluency into the horse-power of the engine . Consumption also lower for EFI !
But I think the newer 3.2L Cedric now does have electronic fuel injections .

But given a choice, I'd choose the Cedric. Not as common as the Crown so not as peeved upon seeing it.![]()
That means the Crown needs to have a rear passenger all the time!Originally posted by Poolman:

Perth's Ford Falcon cabs use auto gear. Also, the Falcons have better suspension than Japanese makes.Originally posted by Poolman:Manual gear maintenance lower .
