But hopefully these Czech makers spare parts supply do not present much problems in the longer run. I remember in the older Skoda days with models like the Rapid Coupe, parts hard to find here & those cars were very 'roughly finished' & not too reliable.

Trouble with all these Japanese models (whether it's super superb luxury whatever) is that, their designs have comparatively short shelf life which is largely copycat of bits here & there of the more established European marques. Many of the Japanese & Korean makes even get European stylists to do their bodyshell. Therefore not too much superior originality distinctive appeal from any of them ! That's why i've never been too impressed enough to go for these.
If it's $53000, i'll definitely forget about these, whether or not they use them as taxis. I believe this Lexus namesake was coined up to please the American market mainly. BTW, i've also seen Lexus biscuits ! But i don't think any relation to Toyota in this case.

to those skoda taxi driver out there : if u find tat 163bhp, 350nm, 0-100 in 9.3 sec, top speed 223kmh, not enough 4 u, u can check out autovox tat will u help u 2 chip u ya bhp n torque n everything by 30% more !! but nowaday flashing is more 'in' den chippin up n gives the same effect more horses n torque!! price mayb around $1k- $2k

Based on the Skoda's spec. given by another post, it seems quantitatively the power, torque, acceleration & top speed between this 2.5-litre V6 Skoda are roughly quite similar to the 2.2-litre in-line 4-cylinder E 220 taxi, the Skoda having few more of BHP, Nm, Km/h & 1 second acceleration time difference.
But what about the weight, absolute fuel consumption as well as the efficientcy aspect ??
Also the interior compartment & boot volume differences ?
Not forgetting the extremely important comfort issue of noise, vibration & harshness levels from the engine & vehicle as a whole ?
Also how good is the suspension ride comfort, seats & various other aspects of attention to detail etc. Such qualitative issues i'm not too sure the Skoda would be able to beat the M-B on however, compared to the relatively simpler task of taking an engine from somewhere else & dumping it into a body.
Interestingly, they say there's only 5 such Skoda taxis here yet in the past few weeks i seem to have seen 3 of them so it cannot be i by chance seen it so many times ?!? Perhaps there's actually more than 5 units ?
Also, roughly speaking, if comparing between 2 charged-cooled engines, then differences in cc become more relevant i.e. 2.5 litre is closer to 2.7 litre than 2.2 litre. From what I heard from a Mercedes-Benz E220CDi driver working for Presido, the Skoda Superb taxis are not as well-equipped as the E220CDis and are less powerful as well. He happened to chat with the drivers of these taxis at the Changi Airport queue.
Also, he mentioned that the earlier batch of Merc E220CDIs (the non Euro 4 compliant version) are manufactured in India, while his 3 month old Euro 4 compliant cab was built in Germany. -
i ask u a simple qn if u r a merc driver wil u say urs lousy den others make n model ???? im sure not rite ?? im not v sure abt merc, but skoda superb have ESP aka traction control which can b disabled n played by e taxi driver, so i really wonder with 6 speed manual, when will he use e 6th gear ??

I will chose the skoda over crown anytime... Crown is F ucking tiring to drive
the NVH is so bad that you get exhausted so easily.. if you think crown is trusty and reliable you are wrong .. I have 2 breakdown in a 4 years old crown in my short taxi driving career of 2 months -

Toyota crown, the name is seriously defamed and an insult to the luxurious sedan Toyota Crown Passenger Car a sits used for taxis in such large numbers.. i actually liked toyota crowns as the saloon car, but with the cabs as crowns, its a pity..
