Mercedes Benz (MB) is poised to deliver 600 taxis worth SGD 66 million to Singapore (4 times its annual global cab sales)
These MB cabs, has met the new "Euro IV" emission standards,and looks forwards to tax perks..
A company which buys the Euro IV "green" cabs need to pay only 10% additional registration fee (as compared to 110% for the normal Euro II cabs).
Mercedes Benz and Skoda are the only 2 cab suppliers whose cabs met the Euro IV requirement, which emits 75% less toxic gases as compared to Euro II engines.
ComfortDelgro (Presido, Souverign) currently has 450 white MB cabs in its fleet of 17,000, and will take delivery of 124 more new MB cabs in November.
SMRT (Prestige) which has 300 MB white cabs, will acquire at least 100 more by year-end.
SMART Automobile is also holding talks to buy some MB "green" cabs. SMART has the one and only bi-fuel Mercedes Cab in Singapore, a 1.8 Litre E200, which runs on both petrol and Natural Gas (CNG).
Currently, there is 780 Mercedes Cabs on the roads.

Mercedes Benz recently delivered 25 new "green" silver coloured cabs. Named "Silverstar" by the CEO, Mr Chua, the silver MB cab fleet will increase by another 25 in December.
Mr Chua wants a taxi fare hike and was quoted: "Cab fares in Singapore are the lowest among all the developed countries. Our Flagdown rate should be at least $1 more."
The new cabs reg. numbers will be in the SHB888x SHB89xx range such as SHB8988S, SHB8388S. All 25 are registered on
11/09/2005 and will retire on
11/09/2013.
