I would have thought the fee charge would have already included the service fee.
Din they mentioned everytime they want to increase price that it is for giving better service to the end users?(apart from the other reason of increasing oil price) -

yes i am wondering too just what was that CEO thinking when she implement such a system,singapore just does not have a tipping culture like those in western country,especially since the economy is not doing that well,if people can dun pay (tips),they will likely not pay to save the money for better use.It is just normal survival instinct

I knew all this , i have many SMRT cabby friends , they thought the company s-u-c-k-s all the time , trust me , wait til you know most SMRT taxi drivers friend , u'll know !Why should the cabbies jump ship? In fact, more cabbies will sign on with SMRT. SMRT new initiative will encourage taxi drivers to adopt a Pro customer service attitude. Commuters who ride with SMRT will definitely remember the service they had and will, next time, flag down SMRT cabs.

Cabby like us just want money la .... SMRT cabbies getting the lowest income among drivers , they money not enuf la .
Their company has come out with some new things , that doesn't work .
Once they implement giving $1699 bonus with 12 month contract , then SMART Cab gave $1699 without contract , they lost !
Once they gave flyers , pay up to $2288 bonus after 01 yr , Comfort gave $2400 if you have drove for one year ! They lost !
Once taxi drivers driving one taxi company earning not enough , he'll go to another with a greener pasture .
Honestly , Comfort drivers earns a reasonable good income compare to SMRT , quite simply , Comfort has got a very good taxi booking system , easy for customers , easy for cabby to earn .
SMRT doesn't have a good efficient booking system .
SMRT struggle !

This price is checked by regulatory bodies and found to be an acceptable price to charge for a taxi trip at which the cabbie can earn a acceptable profit so of course that means the passenger is already paying for the full acceptable cost of taking a taxi.If so,why should the passenger be paying more? -
yeah hor.. the $2.40 for 1st km is to cover up a lot of cost u know?
the meter fare is 10c for 225m. so for the 1st km, should be 50c, but is actually $2.40 because of other costs, and the cabby able to secure a customer.
Same as bus fares, that they start at 64cents instead of 10cents? -

That's why Comfort drivers always say , Singaporean cannot pity one , little bit complaint , when many people take taxi time , must make them call for a cab . Make them pay not only $2.40 , make them pay $2.40 + $4.00 .
Many might say , Then we don't call Comfort lor , boycott Comfort lor , call another company lor . That's fine with us , u don't call Comfort , someone else will !

If every 15 minutes cabby get a customer going short distance , and the meter stop at $2.90 , we earned only $11.60 per hour , in 10 hour , we earned only $116 , minus off diesel at $20 ,and rental $46 , the nett salary $50 .
$50 for 10 hours work , it's pathetic !
If the starting fare is $3.40 , meter stopped at $3.90 every trip , per hour is $15.60 , ten hours $156.60 , minus off $20 diesel , and $46 rental , nett salary $90 , still okay for 10 hours job !
My conclusion : $3.40 flag down is a much more reasonable flag down price .
Some may argue , where got every trip $3 one ? You bet , when they switch MRT
Taxi time , many Singaporean do that at MRT taxi stand ! -

Say whatever you want lah,your calculation also only based on your own hypothetic assumption.More than likely it is not 4 passenger per 1 hour but maybe 2 or 3 customer per longer amount of distance.The calculation is way different then.
My point still stands,since it is decided that the flag down rate is $2.40 ++ $$ per distance travelled.This is the price that taxi operator tell their customers this is the worth for their service provided.If you are not happy,go lobby for the higher rate and when that happens,people will then decided if they want to take a taxi at that higher rate.
It is like you are going to a hawker center to buy something to eat.The stall tell you that this plate of eg chicken rice is $3.00. Then you jolly well pay only $3.00.Do you hear the hawker saying then that hey this is not enough,and want you to pay extra?You pay for something based on what the seller offered at a price to you,you do not pay for something thinking if this amount let the seller have a decent profit.Since the seller decided to sell at this predetermined price,he better jolly well stick to it and not complain later that he should have sold it at a higher price so that he could have made a more "acceptable profit".
You said yourself,singaporeans should not be sympathised,so you think the one looking to take a taxi should sympathise with taxi drivers that they do not earn enough profit and give them tips?A Deal is a deal,since a predetermined price is offered already,no sympathy should be in the way,the customer pay according to this predetermined price and not sympathised with you having to pay for high disel and rental price.
So if you are not earning enough profit,go complain to your own taxi company for charging high rental or get whole bunch of taxi drivers to petition for a higher flag down fee.At present,it is decided at $2.40 ++ to be an acceptable price so no way should consumers be paying more

SMRT has 3000 taxis, of which 10%, or 300, are not being able to be rented out. Sitting idle. it is the operator which has the most taxis idle in terms of percentage of fleet size.
The total idle taxis in Singapore stands at 1,500, or 7% of the total.
There is about 22000 taxis in Singapore. -

Thus,with the improved pay it will attract more Ppl in e industry and in the long run ,the supply of cabbies driver would increase,at a much faster rate den demand for cabbies thus there will be marginal or little increase in taxi drivers wages.
