PRC taxi drivers in Singapore ?

There were one question from some forumers : Is there PR Chineses nationals driving Singapore taxis ? Or Indian Nationals from India driving taxis ?
And the answer is : No !
No way la , the person who actually had this thoughts is nutz la , really nutz .
I am a 37-yrs-old cabby , living in Singapore for 37 years , Singapore road i can only say i know 95% , how can you expect those China pumpkins to know 100%Singapore roads in 1 or 2 years ?
U people think easy to master the roads in Singapore ? U guys think it's easy to master the roads by the shortest route in S'pore ?
Majority of Singaporean you ask them a certain ulu ulu places , they also dunno , how do you expect those Chinese pumpkins to know ?
LTA will be looking for trouble if they allowed PRC or forengn nationals to drive our taxis . Especially if they want so call "service " , you all want service from those Chinese , non-English speaking idiots to give you service ?
NTUC Union won't allowed it !
Instead of giving jobs to Singaporeans , how can they give those jobs to foreigners ? PAP are going to lose their elections .
LTA regulations : To register to become a cabby ......
1. Must be a Singaporean , pure Singaporean , not even Permanent Resident !
2. Must be 30 years and above
3. Must be able to read and write Simple English .
4. Must go through 3 mths Intensive Theory Training , and must passed the exam with less than 5 mistakes .
I'm a Singaporean Chinese , does that mean I'm a PRC ? No sorry , I'm Singaporean . -

prc doesn't mean 1/2 years in sg wad could be living here for 10 20 years already gt a malaysian classmate living here since young he 99.99% singaporean lor even though he is pr n prc doesn't mean bumpkin wad scarly lived for 10 yrs in uk more in den any of us sia

Me just answered a few question brought up by a few forumers , and was surprised they don't know the rational behind of not having PRC as taxi drivers .
Being a cabby is for some , is a last alternatives of being unemployed . It's a culture , and this culture has to go on . -

Hey, I am an Singapore Citizen and did drive for Comfort, I was born and raised in Singapore till age 8 and moved to HK with my mother, I then moved to USA for HS and Community College, then I returned to Singapore 7 years ago and drove for Comfort, I am both a Hk citizen and Singpore Citizen, and now I am owning/ Driving cab in HK because I met my wife there and started a family. Am I one of the pumpkin that steal your union Job, Taxi Uncle!!!!!

BTW: Forward means advance, job discrimination is backwards!!!! Did u see NYC or London not Hire foreigners as drivers, infact, alot of them are foreigners with perminant residency....

Now I am not sure about how easy it is to get PR status in Sg, but I suspect it is comparatively easy. In the UK, to obtain indefinite leave to remain (PR equivalent), you need to have worked and lived in the UK for 4 years. Not an easy feat given that under EU law, before a company can hire a foreigner, it must show that another EU citizen cannot do the same job and hiriring you is good for the coy's business.
Now, taxi driving is not exactly something that requires special or exceptional talents. Not saying that it is easy, but that it is certainly no rocket science. How can you justify hiring foreign talents when there is an abundance of local candidates? -
Someone wrote to Today in the forum page a few days back.
Apparently, the cab driver was a PRC national and when the author wanted to go to Raffles Place, the driver actually told him that he did not know where Raffles Place was and wanted the guy to direct him.
The author was flabbergasted.

How to employ PRC to drive taxis in Singapore when above mentions topics invite so many complaints about suspected PRC in Singapore ?
Backwards ? Yes , PRC is backwards if Singapore public transport system wants to go forward .
Singapore drivers know Singaporeans culture , PRC doesn't . If PRC used their own China's culture to work in metropolitan Singapore , it's backwards .

Some drivers does speak very good mandarin , the complainant has to distinguish what's good Singapore mandarin and China's manadrin , the only way to distinguish is to have a relatively good level of mandarin , and i guessed that person that work at Raffles place doesn't .

U are the best person to give these opinion , being away for so long , and drive a taxi in Singapore , can you cope with the roads ? With the driving culture , with Singaporean's demanding attitude ?

the situation in hongkong where jobs held by hongkies are lost to PRC is prevalent in the world. take spore for eg, our low end manufacturing industries started to shift to low cost countries for the past decade. so it is not the hongkong government's fault for the influx of cheap PRC workers but rather, the fault lies in their inability to move up the ladder of the job industry. although spore has seen many retrenchments when companies shift to china, thai, vietnam, our government on one hand tries to deep cost down (but they know it is impossible to compete with these countries head on with cost), thus they pursue high end jobs for us, this is the major reason why our unemployment rate is lower than hongkong. hence, there is no way to stop the production of a good or service being snatched away from someone who is at least as capable but cheaper. this is globalisation!!!
ok back to PRC cabbies in spore. when i was in london and new york city, most of the cabbies are foreign talent and mind you, they do know the way around and what i am most impressed about is that they know the historical and cultural aspects of the cities too. this is akin to spore cabbies who knows a lot about our history from the time Raffles set foot here till LKY took power till our 1st world economy status. i have a neighbour who is a cabbie for many years and i love to talk to him becos he knows all this stuff and he is a gentleman driver. however i think not all spore cabbies are equal so there will be those who are more knowledgeable than others. having said that, i think it is reasonable to expect that there are some PRCs who know at least as much as spore cabbies, especially those who have stayed here for quite a while. and it has to be noted that even for a freshie spore cabbie, he/she can't know 95% of the roads in spore rite, it is the experience on the road that is needed. as long as a new cabbie has the motivation to serve their customers and keep up with the road directories, who cares whether it is a spore or PRC cabbies. if spore transport system is to move forward, this should be our mindset. -
cabbies life also not that good. Gota find customer themselves on the roads, face daily rental $92.
Like a cabby target daily $150 in fares, gota drive and drive until meet "target" before he can rest his heart a bit.. -

In Singapore, its the opposite, therefore, with our Government only givin g cabby licence to Singaporeans, its like a sign of protection for the industry and the cabbies!
Yeah, some cabbies may not know the way, but they may be newly- employed cabbies..
I been to Thailand. Their cabbies all recruited from some far away place. No training. route familiarisation needed for them. Thats why u go funny places, gota ask 10 taxis before some1 knows the way.
Singapore, at least have training, but then, Singapore has so many places people wanna go -
