Wah . I didnt know that !Originally posted by rathcycle:steptronic gearboxes don't last..
manual ftw..
Yeah . Maybe change gear in a relaxed manner ? No need to shift so fast like race cars (manual one , not talking abt semi-auto) .Originally posted by sbst275:Manual can be relaxing actually
In fact changing of gears kinda of keeps you awake![]()

Erm more likely damage to the clutch i think . If gears damage think because the gear never mesh up properly . Manual tranny dont have the lock up mechanism . It all depends on the clutch to connect the engine to the gearsets . The sound u heard is most likely that while shifting gear , the gears grind against one another.Originally posted by jetabt767400:I guess when you change gears too quickly, the gearbox will sustain some damage. Saw some cabbie drive Crown or Cedric, change too fast and got a lockup (loud crack sound), but most have good experience and change at the correct time to suit the adequate torque.
I choose manual.
How about 0405 (bus) W3E gearbox? Step/triptronic too?
YEAH .Originally posted by 105090:manual is better. they are quieter.
manual ones the cabbies like to keep revving and over-rev, drag gear![]()
To be exact, all buses have buttons for shifting gears, except the Dennis Darts that use the Allisons gear lever. Even the Merc W3E is button-operated.Originally posted by Scania N113CRB luver:Erm more likely damage to the clutch i think . If gears damage think because the gear never mesh up properly . Oh ya u said transfer of torque , that also depends on clutch . Nothing to do with gears . As long as the gears dont mesh properly , the car will not move and the gear will get damaged instead .
The W3E. is not a Tiptronic gearbox . Also , Step/Tiptronic are for cars and light vehicles only . For heavy vehicle they use semi-auto trans .Btw , the W3E. is a fully automated gearbox , not semi-auto , not Step/Tiptronic.
your logic being? as long as the person behind the wheel is unsafe, no car, be it auto or manual, is safe.Originally posted by Aaron8209:taxi should manual...safer...
If you are talking about fully-automatic torque convertor gearbox with manual override, FC is the same as normal auto gearbox with no manual override..because it is still an auto gearbox but with manual override, that's all..Originally posted by Scania N113CRB luver:Hello !
I would like to ask this . Do you guys prefer future taxis to have automatic gearbox or manual ones ?Automatic ones are more 'relaxing' to drive . But have lower fuel efficiency than manual gearbox .
Manual is harder or more of a hassle to drive . But good top speed and better fuel economy .
Which u prefer ?To me , i think manual better . But hey ! Some cars have gearbox that are capable of both automatic and manual usage ! Known as tiptronic .
