since he's been driving a taxi for more than 25yrs; what was the taxi rental rate, income vs cost of living back then? in 1988, a 3-rm hdb flat cost only ard $40K++ but now its abt $150K++! and his sons are all grown up by now, got good jobs and most prob even contribute monthly household income to him. and now i bet he's driving a taxi to pass time la - so why cannot survive?Originally posted by ORIGAMIST:My wife just took a taxi to Jurong. The driver is a old hand with more than 25 years experiences.. In the taxi, no radio, no handphone, no nothing. She told my wife that driving taxi is not that bad. He don't have to depend on booking yet he is able to support his family and see his sons through university. His secret ? Nothing special. Just drive the drive a full eight hour like any other people going to work. Don't gamble etc ... there is no reason a taxi driver cannot survive... He did say he does not understand why people complain driving taxi cannot survive.
I relate this here is add on to the discussion. Whether this uncle bull or not I don't know but I feel there is some truth in it lor... otherwise, why would we have a millionaire driving taxi full time ...
the price of fuel can only be saved marginally ($ per litre) even when these organisation order in bulk quantity. thats because the current global fuel price is more or less fixed at an amount.Originally posted by swee_heng:This is because they order fuel in large quality , when ordered in large quality , the petrol company charge you cheaper then you buy it as retail. Some private bus companies also do that , they order fuel in large quality.
our govt doesnt seem to do much to promote CNG vehicles leh. how many petrol kiosks in sg got CNG refuelling facilities? what about vehicle maintenance facilities? are our existing vehicle workshops ready to accept CNG vehicles in terms of spare parts availability, skill expertise to repair such vehicles? any incentive for vehicle buyers to consider buying CNG vehicles instead of petrol/diesel driven ones (in terms of taxes, etc)? if CNG vehicles are successfully introduced into the masses here, we could expect cost of maintenance to drop.Originally posted by swee_heng:Since fuel are increasing , might as well make all vehicles hybrid or run on CNG , CNG ius only $0.65 per litre. This benefits cabbies.
Who want to bear the cost of setting up the infrastraucture ?Originally posted by SBS3688Y:our govt doesnt seem to do much to promote CNG vehicles leh. how many petrol kiosks in sg got CNG refuelling facilities? what about vehicle maintenance facilities? are our existing vehicle workshops ready to accept CNG vehicles in terms of spare parts availability, skill expertise to repair such vehicles? any incentive for vehicle buyers to consider buying CNG vehicles instead of petrol/diesel driven ones (in terms of taxes, etc)? if CNG vehicles are successfully introduced into the masses here, we could expect cost of maintenance to drop.
Countries such as Malaysia and Australia long ago got adequate infrastructures and facilities to support CNG vehicles. Singapore is still backward in this area.
very true.Originally posted by seancannot:Last time one crown cost a taxi coy more than $100 K cost of high coe .nowaday one sonata is slight more than 70 K due to low coe and tax rebate , yet they charge cabby more rental , you figure out beside the diesel tax where does money goes
They will say need to account to shareholder loh, must increase P & L lah, CEO management need more pay lah !!
Agree agree ...100% true !!!Originally posted by SBS9818A:Government earns so much from taxation on diesel, so why do you think they would be willing to set up CNG stations? They have mentioned that they want to set up such infrastructure but in the end, doing so will only hurt their bottomline. You think they still want to do meh?
