Cab driver faces jail for causing death in rash act
SINGAPORE: A cab driver has been found guilty of causing a manÂ’s death by a rash act.
The court heard that in April this year, cab driver Lee Yuet Kong had flung financial advisor Alex Lim off the bonnet of his cab, causing him to hit his head.
The accident happened after both men were involved in a minor collision. The men then pulled over along Scotts Road in front of Shaw House where an argument took place.
In their heated discussion, Lee, who had a passenger in his car, refused to divulge his details and instead, tried to drive off.
Mr Lim, who wanted LeeÂ’s particulars, stood in front of the cab to stop him. Despite that, Lee continued to drive on, throwing Mr Lim onto the bonnet of his cab.
Lee then accelerated before braking abruptly, flinging Mr Lim off. Mr Lim fell backwards onto the road and hit his head on the curb.
The impact caused Mr Lim to slip into a coma and he died in hospital a month later.
Lee now faces a maximum jail term of two years, or a maximum S$1,000 fine, or both.
Sentencing has been adjourned until December 3rd for Lee’s defence lawyer to prepare for mitigation. — CNA/yb -

You're right , even if that cabby doesn't give the details , this guy should have block the taxi on his own , he can take down the rego & lodge a claim or complaint & also take down the location & the time , why must he play around with his life by blocking a taxi? Serves him right. A taxi is much heavier! But then this taxi driver also abit unreasonable , give him the full details la! Sentencing of cabby in Scotts Road incident postponed
SINGAPORE: The sentencing of a taxi driver found guilty of causing the death of a man by a rash act has been postponed.
The court is waiting for the defence lawyer of 68—year—old Lee Yuet Kong to present a detailed medical report by Lee’s doctor.
LeeÂ’s lawyer, NK Rajarh, told the court that Lee is suffering from various medical conditions including nasopharyngeal cancer and a "history of heart failure".
Lee is also "waiting for open—heart surgery", said the lawyer. So, Lee is seeking a non—custodial sentence.
Lee had been convicted of causing the death of Alex Lim, a 30—year—old financial adviser.
In April, LeeÂ’s taxi and LimÂ’s car were involved in a minor collision along Paterson Road. Both vehicles pulled over along Scotts Road in front of Isetan and an argument ensued.
Lee, who had a passenger, then got back into his taxi and tried to drive off. However, Lim, wanting to get LeeÂ’s particulars, stood in front of the taxi. But Lee drove away, throwing him onto the bonnet.
The cab accelerated before braking abruptly, causing Lim, who was clinging onto the bonnet, to fall backwards and hitting his head on the road. Lim went into a coma and died a month later.
Lee faces a maximum jail term of two years or a fine or both.
The case is scheduled for mention at the Subordinate Courts on 3rd January next year. — CNA/ir -
i read in the papers that he is trying to use his medical condition to ask for a pardon and escape any jail term. there is another case by a molester and the culprit actually escape jail term bcos he have some cancer and is dying, his lawyers is using that case to help his client to get pardoned.
what to do u think?
i thk, no matter how, the taxi driver still must answer to his crimes(not mistake). even if he is old and abt to die bcos of some illness, letting him go freely will do no justice. firstly, he drove off after commiting an accident. then he knock and hit and run. then he hid and didn't own up until the police found him. the victim is suffering yet he chose to hide. and ignoring the pleas from the victim's gf to come out and shed some light on how the accident had occurred. its very painful to see ur love one in coma for 1 month! nothing can describe the agony and pain of the victim's friends and family!
in short, the driver is a cb. and he still want to be pardoned from jail term? jail term is already too lenient for him.. and he still want to bargain! -

68—year—old Lee Yuet Kong had earlier been found guilty of causing the death of 29—year—old Alex Lim by a rash act.
The court heard that on 9 April, Lee and Lim were involved in a minor accident and both had stopped along Scotts Road in front of Isetan.
During their heated argument, Lee refused to divulge his details. So Lim stood in front of LeeÂ’s cab to stop him from leaving the scene.
But Lee braked suddenly and then drove into Lim, who was clinging onto the cabÂ’s bonnet. Lim was knocked unconscious and went into a coma. He died in hospital a month later.
Lee could have been jailed for up to two years.
His lawyer had told the court that Lee is suffering from various medical conditions including nasopharyngeal cancer.
