Honestly, I dont have many problems with the hike, except that the 35% of metered fare for peak hour is really too much.
For a $10 trip, you are forking out an extra $3.50 compared to $2 now.
$12 trip, $4.20.
I certainly hope they can keep the peak hour fare down to less than 25%.
So a $12 trip during peak hour = $3 more !! Even that is barely acceptable !!

They complain no top up stations in mainland. If all taxi companies engage the service, u realli tink there wont be top up stations being set up? Consider the amount of taxi's in the market. Taxi drivers are just the prawns sandwiched in between and used as baits to get the fare hike implemented. Will the taxi companies dare publish their annual earnings and let the public see if they are really suffering losses. So far not even one campany dare come transparent and show the public that they are in the RED and thus to justify the hike.
Just another plot of the blood suckers (taxi companies). Just wait and see for yourself who emerge the winner if ppl tink the cabbies will stand to profit. Too bad most cab takers are all talk no action. They grumble and complain the most but still "LL" take taxi. If stay united and boycot the fare hike, see if they can survive.
I will definitely boycott the taxi ride from now considering how long had it been since the new price hike from the previous.

i feel it's always the case from general election and more pay hike coming. when the media boost dat the economy of sg is blooming, every merchants will take the chance to request for pay hike.
i wonder which pay hike is coming next? singtel/starhub broadband fee? -

Private sector at least 2 months ....

During the last $0.10 up-price exercise , i saw almost the same people saying the same old crap ....
Still , taxi business is like busy until no tomorrow .... until Merc Cab saw the demands , and did the toutings ....
And so good we simply ignored people flagging like hell in the rain ....

They are just adopting a short and quick way out. Tacking short term instead of long term. It is only recent years that the price of fuel shot up. There was a short stint where the price drops. Hopefully they would honour their word that they increase for the sake of the drivers. Im not surprised that the companies will reap some profit out of them. Dun be too fast to draw your conclusion. Time will speak for itself.... -

Next confirm increase is the private bus ride for school kids already. Wat to do? ask the kids to walk to school? They are simply following suit.... -
aiya... hard to get taxi also complain... fare up to adjust demand also complain.. give this increase a chance lah. see whether waiting time improves or not... what is the point of charging u $1 per ride if you can't get taxi forever?... u mean all of you are also blind to the fuel price rocketing over the months? In fact, the taxi fares are artificially low for many months liao...
sometimes, I collect $5 fare from the rich ang moh tourists, I also feel embarrassed as a first world nation.. sometimes 4 big size youngsters squeeze into my cab and pay $4 fare... something is wrong right?......
me just driving to earn an income... not keen to argue with commuters... but ask you lah....if the fare is really too high, no need to organise boycot also taxis close shop. but if fare too low, flag also forever no cab.... -

there are 2 sides to a coin lah... i ever stopped to take foreign indian workers....4 squeeze into my cab during heavy rain... after the short trip to some ulu factory, they pay my $3+ and I have to stop somewhere to clean the seats with mud... another once at 1 am, 4 teenages squeezed into my cab...halfway they asked me to stop citing no money liao... i also drove them all the way... sometimes got win got lose one lah...

CNG engines help Prime Taxi to keep overheads down
SINGAPORE: Prime Taxi bucked the trend this week when it announced its flag—down fares will not be raised for three months.
But come 1 January, meter rates and city area surcharges will go up.
Prime Taxi drivers said the companyÂ’s decision is due to the fact that overheads are still manageable as rental rates of PrimeÂ’s taxis are 30 percent below the market average.
Moreover, PrimeÂ’s fleet of 100 taxis run on compressed natural gas (CNG) which costs 5 cents for every kilometre, compared to diesel which costs an average of 12 cents per kilometre.
But despite the lower costs, there are practical reasons for the low take—up of CNG cars, which make up less than 1 percent of the 23,000 taxis in Singapore.
Tan Soon Chye, General Manager of Taxi Division, Prime Taxi, said: "Currently, if they want to refuel CNG they will need to go to Jurong Island. However, this will cease to be a problem come January next year when more CNG kiosks are set up in Singapore."
Nonetheless, the company does not think there would be more CNG taxis on the roads anytime soon.
"99 percent of the taxis running on the road now are powered by diesel. In order to convert to CNG, they need a substantial amount of money and time," said Mr Tan.
Prime said it is raising meter rates and city area surcharges in line with ComfortDelGro to attract its drivers into the central business district during peak hours. — CNA/so -

Cos i knew exactly what time taxi is busy , i knew exactly what time taxi drivers ignored street flag-down , i knew eactly the problems faced by cabbies , i knew simply everything about taxi drivers .
I was like u cursing and swearing cabbies , until i am a cabby myself .
Singaporeans need to drive a taxi for a day and taste the ba-woo before they really summarise their views . -

When u are a cabby , and u see the amount of money people spent in Orchard Road shopping , bags after bags , branded stuff after branded stuff , u'll be stupid not to earn them extra $4 for bookings .
If u see the cash sales machines rolling non-stop , taxi fare is nothing !!! -

Also , Prime Taxis never move inline with Comfort pricing , their drivers also lan lan .... their drivers has a 5-yr-contract , they cannot just suka suka resign and joined Comfort !
Prime cheap , but they only got about 200 taxis on the road ?
To wait for them , the chances very slim , must be really lucky .
From Monday , because they're dun have that $3 city charge , their booking line will be bombarded by commuters .
So waiting for them at the taxi stand will not be a good idea . -
Govt encourage us to be smart and dun be too dependent on one source as you will be held at mercy. See wat i mean? Diesel price shot up, all of us held at mercy.
2 very simple examples will do:
a) We got held at mercy with price increase for water by M'sia, wat did our govt do? Source from Indonesia, have our own sanitation plant and produce New-water as alternative.
b) Again held at mercy for sand issue by Indonesia, govt dig into their sand reserves resources as well as replace non crucial components in structures by using less sand (better technology).
We had CNG as alternative but chose to ignore it. If the govt had still stick with the same old source, our price of water and buildings would have soar up already. Just a matter whether the men playing golfs wants to bother or not. To them, a simple and easy way is to increase price. Why bother to crack their brains and do extra work when they have their own vehicle anyway.... -
Sone china factories uses "human dung" to generate electricity for the whole factory. Saves money and cost of electricity. If they can do it, why cann't we?

Singapore SMRT joins ComfortDelGro in taxi fare hike
SINGAPORE, Dec 14 - Singapore's second-largest taxi operator SMRT said in a statement on Friday that it will raise taxi fares from Dec 21, four days after leading rival ComfortDelGro announced it would do the same.
SMRT, which has 3,000 taxis to ComfortDelGro's fleet of 15,000, said the hikes are to mitigate higher operating costs due to rising fuel prices.
It said the changes include raising minimum starting fares to S$2.80 and the tripling of a surcharge to S$3 for taxis entering Singapore's downtown area after 5:00 p.m., in line with the hikes made by ComfortDelGro.
Inflation in Singapore hit a 16-year high in October and the government has forecast it could reach 5 percent in the first quarter next year.
Taxi firms have been hurt by high oil prices , which traded above $92 a barrel on Friday after a record near $100 last month.
