Quick question...Any different if I apply the above during the Comfort road show or apply directly online at Taxi Academy?
No idea yet...First need to get the vacational licence first. My main worried is really familiarisation of the roads. I have been driving for quite a number of years but to be honest I m really lousy in recognising and remembering landmark, building, road name. I really need to study hard first before taking the first step as a relief driver. :)
I don't want to get scolding from passenger for not able to bring them to where they want to go.
Do Taxi drivers use GPS to help them ? Especially the new ones?
I plan to start driving taxi early next year. I will be getting a GPS..
Because i am really bad with singapore roads. :(
Will you be doing part-time or full-time? Which company will you be joining?
GPS will be good for people like me as well...not sure many current drivers doing tat too..

It is best to learn your roads and routings by being on the ground driving. Everyday is a learning process ...something like tuition..you learn new roads or new way to get around.... A must to have is a copy of the street directory.... lastly...our onboard GPS...i did not use it intially till I ticker with it and learn to use to complement my jobs n drive... Dont rely on it too though... Good luck

ask you something, during your shift, do you enter CBD empty and pay ERP to get pax?
GPS .... not really useful , as far as i am concern .
Experience is the best .
Dunno about u guys .... during 2002 , where got what GPS ?
I also like that drive , almost 6 years .....
Heard from Curtis , GPS can be useful , but once u know the route , u can throw it away .
Useful if u totally dunno the way .
S'pore a tiny country ... customer is your best teacher .
Just tell customer , u're very new , they will help u , they guarantee won't scold u for nothing . Get them to guide u through .
They will only scold u if u don't know and yet anyhow humtum .
Especially caucasians ..... they hate drivers dunno and yet don't ask .
In cases like u dunno how to go , and they also dunno how to go .... 1st option , see directory , if still dunno , then 2nd , get them to take another cab if possible .
I would advise u see directory , tat's how u learn .
of course , day-to-day , u must master those roads as quick as possible .
Learn and keep inside ur head ....
GPS ? GPS is a dead stuff , learning thru GPS , can learn ?
I guarantee learning thru directory 100% u'll learn fast .

I also do tat , if no choice .
Pay $2 ( 6pm to 6.30pm ) , is a gamble , if u pay , and get one go just outside , not worth it .
But if u pay , and the pax stay within the CBD , then this $2 is worthwhile .
I nfact , those VL courses , can never teach u all road and landmarks .... only 5% , the rest of the 95% , it's all about how much u can learn once u're on the road .
How i learn ?
Everytime i start driving , when no pax , i go cruising , see look see look .....
Like i sent a pax to orchard Tower , i will take the chance to see what;s next of Orchard Tower , where's Forum galleria , where's Hilton , where's Far East SC , or Liat towers etc ....
As my vehicle cruise down Orchard Road , i see more building , i learnt more .
Drive Comfort is good , at my time , my MDT is the traditional MSDOS one , no GPS , so everytime i got a call , if dunno , i check map , then proceed to location .
When i check like 60 , Robinson Road , not only i'll learn about where's 60, Robinson Road , i'll know where Mccallum Road , or Maxwell Road , or Telok Ayer St , or those surroundings road .
One stone killed many birds concept .
good luck buddy .
For the course, attend online or classroom ..better? Which one is faster? Is it easy to pass the test ? Any comment on Comfort e-learning course?
On line .... online is the shorter route to success , i think . But i actually dunno if they're helpful when u're on the road .
Class lecturing is more comprehensive , as in they cover alot of important knowledge and experience about taxi services .
Online if u're already very good , like i am a ex-outdoor salesman , i know all Supermarkets and shopping arcades in S'pore , i just need to master Shenton Way area like that .
Depending on your calibre , u assess ur own strength la .
