need help with external hard disk

  help my external hard disk cant be read... its brand new and when i plug in to the laptop nothing happens ? no detection how? anyone can help?

  Install the drivers that come with it.

  no need driver if you are using windows xp.
  
  My guess is that your disk is not formatted yet as its brand new.
  
  Do the follwing to format your disk ..
  
  Open Control Panel
  Select Adminitrative Tools
  Select Computer Management
  Select Disk Management
  
  Here you will see all the disks that are available on your computer, you should be able to see you new disk and you will be able to format you disk from here.

  Thanks for the help but i dun see any other disk on it only my original C and D drive ..... i think got to go down service centres bang table le haiz.... really wasting my time... thanks geboz and xiaomayyi

  Problem solved! problem lies with the USB cable! faulty cable! wth but thanks anyway
