Kazakh artisans
Sheber Aul, which is Kazakh for "village of artisans", was set up in the late 1980s by a group of artisans from around the country who wanted to build a "haven for creativity". -
Altynbek is one of the artisans who specialises in metalwork and ornaments. -
He, like many others in the village, has a worksop within his own apartment. -
Many pieces of his work have gone on to be displayed in a museum in Astana. -
The crafts also reflect the nomadic existence of the villager's ancestors. -
The women usually work in felt made from boiled camel fur. Model yurts are a common souvenier. -
Favourites with tourists are hats and slippers. -
With musicals instruments and traditional water bottles also popular. -
