Vigil for Williams

Lebanon tribute to Tueni
Lebanese newspaper owner and critic of Syria Gibran Tueni was killed by a car bomb on Monday. On Wednesday, hundreds of thousands of people attended his Beirut funeral. -
Mourners gathered amid posters of the assassinated publisher of the popular An-Nahar daily. He was a vocal opponent of Syrian troops in Lebanon before their pullout in April. -
Mr Tueni's daughter Nayla laid her hands on her father's coffin as it was led through the Ashrafieh area of Beirut. Many Lebanese have blamed Syria for the 48-year-old's killing. -
Mourners had held a vigil on Tuesday night outside the offices of An-Nahar, condemning the assassination. -
Mourners held candles for Mr Tueni, who had just returned to Lebanon from France. The killing has led to a surge in anti-Syrian feeling. -
The killing of Mr Tueni is the fourth assassination in Lebanon this year. In February, former Prime Minister Rafik al-Hariri was killed by a car bomb. -
Mr Tueni was killed alongside his driver, a bodyguard and another person, when the bomb blew up his armour-plated car. A general strike has been called by anti-Syrian groups. -
