I nehber like the idea of sterilisation.Originally posted by Wanda:Why never sterilise?
Abandonment of animals is an offence, u know? And they may not survive outside if they were once home cats.
That is where you're wrong. There are just too many strays about. If their population is not controlled, u just need one person to complain, and the agencies can send pest control to round them all up, and all killed - to put to sleep if you like.Originally posted by Ferret:I nehber like the idea of sterilisation.
its a kindness meant for humans only.
they were tough and smart.
ah i see. once again this debate.Originally posted by Wanda:That is where you're wrong. There are just too many strays about. So unless you are willing to keep all the kittens being born, would you rather see less unwanted kittens being born, or would you prefer to let them be born, unwanted, and being left out there to suffer, bullied, or abused by crazies, or attacked by other cats or dogs into bloody pieces, or rounded up to be killed later?
This is no joke...abandoning them to suffer their fate...and highly irresponsible.![]()
I am not taking any moral high ground, nor do I want to get into a debate over this with you.Originally posted by Ferret:ah i see. once again this debate.
there are different views wanda.
u cant just say that other ppl are wrong because their views are different.
i view mao mi as a friend. not a pet. she comes she goes as she pleases. not really a home cat. I dont neuter her for my convienence (i took care of her thru birth and care for her kittens), nor would i want to make the decision because i want to take the moral higher ground of social responsibility.
Since u have asked, my answer is that i chose life over death. Yes they may be unwanted kittens. But to be born is to have a chance at life. And how are we to judge that being left out there means "to suffer, bullied, or abused by crazies, or attacked by other cats or dogs into bloody pieces, or rounded up to be killed later?" ?
Nope. Not a debate i wanna get into. Its just that I see this as different viewpoints while u straightaway claimed that i was wrong. So thats where the moral high ground came in.Originally posted by Wanda:I am not taking any moral high ground, nor do I want to get into a debate over this with you.
Just go do your research - what's the average lifespan of stray cats out there, compared to a home cared pet?
And how do they die out there?
And knowing how cat-unfriendly Singapore society and the HDB and pte estates are, to feed without sterilising, but just let them breed more and more....until ppl find them a nuisance and decide to get rid of them....
What kind of "chance of life" are you talking about when all the odds are against the strays? These strays cats are not living in the wild without interference by human environment, but they are living in this urban city that does not welcome strays, where most people feel no qualms about killing them.
That is all I can say, and DON'T EVER, EVER feed them if you take the attitude of "just help them and let them go" coz by your co-called help, you are already interfering with their so-called chance at life - by making them dependent somewhat on you, making them think that humans can be trusted (which is not always the case in this cat-unfriendly city) and then u just throw them out and say they are smart enough to survive. That is called irresponsible feeding, even by the Cat Welfare Society.
That is all I can say.
Do you seriously think animals know how to decide what's good for them? That they know having sex and breeding outside someone's doorstep is good for them? That caterhauling and fighting in the middle of the night in a hdb estate is good for them? You think they know how to decide?Originally posted by Ferret:Nope. Not a debate i wanna get into. Yep they have a shorter lifespan and all. But maybe, just maybe, do u think it could be possible for them to desire carrying on living rather than for us to make their decisions ?
If u grabbed one and try to kill it, is it docile or struggling ?Originally posted by Wanda:Do you seriously think animals know how to decide what's good for them? My dear ferret, if you dun already know, animals are controlled by instincts! They eat, shit, mate, breed, all by instincts! Unlike humans who can be held responsible for our actions coz we can think and are educated to think, animals are not like us!![]()
Relax. this aint the first time the debate had been raised. Or that i got involved in one.Originally posted by Wanda:Anyway, I dun claim to change your mindset, no matter what I think of it.
Just take what I'd said as education, or creating awareness about the bigger issues, and try to think about it. Thank you.
I have to stop now or my blood may burst.![]()
