  SMRT mentioned it will take them like 2 years to breakeven....just like how NEL started...

  but based on FY09/10, it's going to be a big hole

  Ridership is only 29,000 to 30,000 (5260 passengers/ km) vs NEL's 140,000 (7000 passengers/ km) during it's starting years

  unless CCL1 & CCL2 starts ops next year

  but I still remembered e SMRT CEO made a remark abt taking over e NEL when it was loss making

  Hmm... I feel they willl certainly make a loss during the first 2 to 3 years. As for whether they continue to make further losses in the upcoming years.... that's unpredictable. Perhaps, now it's the beginning stage and not many popular landmarks are in the vincinity of the new stations... hence ridership is kinda low during this period of time.

  but for CCL, starting years is even more painful to swallow than NEL
