Life is much tougher now than before.
Not so easy to earn and cost is very high especially housing.
50s and 60s are the best time to make money. From the rubber boom of the Korean and Vietnam War and also many foreign soldiers spent like mad during their R&R in Singapore.

Geylang has been a red light district since I was a kid and it spreaded even further during the 60s and 70s to Joo Chiat and Telok Kurau at the height of Vietnam War.
