Writing the winning resume and other job seeking tips

Many companies today are using the internet for their recruiting purposes. It is an efficient, time saving and cost saving alternative to traditional methods of recruitment.
Many people nowadays also look for jobs online at a job portal. So i have came up out some tips on how to write a excellent e-mail resume and application letter. Hope job seekers will find this useful.

Application letter
Application letter is the most important thing you will write. Main purpose of this is to get the recipien to read your resume. In writing it, your aim is to sell yourself. you must indicate to your prospective employer that you are not just an ordinary applicant but someone special and you deserve to be given an opportunity to prove it.
It must catch the reader's attention and should be clear, concise, complete and courteous. they should also be sincere and warm and not sound too formal, or pompous.
Keep the application letter short, 4 short paragraphs is enough. The reason is because it is extremely difficult to read from the screen. the details of your academic qualifications, work experiences, skills and interests should be provided in your resume which will be sent as an attachment to your email.

1st papragraph
Dear xxx,
I am convinced I am the ideal candidate for the position of Assistant Engineer, as advertised on the website www.jobstreet.com.
2nd and 3rd paragraph
(list your educaion qualifications and skills)
last paragraph
I attach my resume for your reference and I welcome the opportunity for a personal interview to further discuss my qulifications and experiences. I believe I would make a fine addition to the company. I can be reached at HP: xxx, Tel: xxx or xxx@xxx.com. I am hopeful of hearing from you soon. Thank you.

remember to send a photo of yourself too, make sure it is taken by a professional that shows you looking competent, professional or dynamic and most of all friendly. -
Tips for Resume
Simpler is better, keep your reseume short. preferably one page is more than enough. recruiters have hundreds of resumes to read, a resume that is short and easy to read will catch the recruiter's eyes more. Recruiters receive many many resumes titled "resume" as their file name, so it would help if you add yor name to the document name when u save it. Do not use wacky e-mail address such as partygirl@emial.com or fundude@email.com as it would give the recuiter the impression that you are not serious about your career. Eliminate use of emoticons such as smiley or frowns. Use spell checkers and grammer checkers, grave grammatical or spelling mistakes are not tolerated. Use well-known formats like microsoft word, PDF, so that files can be easily opened on the recriving end. Scan your computer and files for viruses. sending viruses unintentionally will result in recruiters discarding your resume without reviewing them. Write subject lines that are concise and clearly label the contents of the message. Do not apply for jobs without meeting the minimum qualifications.

When the company replied for you to come for an interview, do a research on the company before going to the interview, visit their website to understand their history, the product they are sellling so as to better prepare yourself for questions asked.
dress smartly for the interview, 1st impression counts. Sleep well the night before the interview. run through all the things u need to bring for the interview. lastly, don't be late for the interview.
When the interviewer ask for you expected salary, it's better to give a range, say $1400 to $1600, rather than to give one that is very low or high. for your info, the market rate for diploma holders are usually $1500, $1600. -
