  It's very easy to retrieve SMS messages, moreover if it's for evidence. Police warrant and the phone company will have to relent. Usually phone messages are store up in the main frame for up to 6 months.

  Nope, depends on the service providers. I remember from an article that one of them erase sms databases every 24 hours where else another keeps for 2 weeks or something.
  
  A population of 4 million, say one send a sms each, 4 million smses would be sent daily. Imagine the memory needed to contain such a huge database.

  Maybe I'm wrong but my gut again tells me that Quinsy has never the concrete intention to lodge a police report.
