The Name Singapore Got it From..

Hehehe... mischievious thoughts filled my mind before this..
Everyone knows Singapore got its name from the legendary Sang Nila Utama rite?
Sang Nila Utama founded singapore long long time ago and as far as i can remember, he doesn't know what to call this island. Then, he saw a lion and call it Singa, which is "lion" in malay (i think), and Pura, which is "city" in malay (i think so too).
Hmm... what if he saw something different???
Let's say he saw a pig. Babipura? hehe...
Raffles will call it babipore.
The Japanese will call it Syobabi.. hehe..

he ask the sikh guards to go question them the name of the island, but the villagers totally ignore them
so he ask the guards to take away their laundry as a punishment
once the villagers saw this, they all cry out, "Singh Kapok, Singh Kapok!"
meaning the singhs kapok or steal their things
raffles thought they mean the name of the island to be Singapore

I doubt SNU saw a lion, since this animal is native to Africa. Probably its cousin the tiger. Maybe due to poor visibility, he thought he saw a lion. Who knows, he may not even have known what a lion resembled.

what I think is Sing is actually Xing = NEW in chinese A = De Pore = PORT ... is just that if u spell it Xingdeport..sounds stupid right ? so he slightly modified is to Singapore.. sounds sleeker... smoother...NICER -
