By the way, assuming from your nick you are born in 1985, and you are now 20 years old... since when were you diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes Mellitus?Originally posted by martin_lim85:aaa just here to ask what happened if i did not take my insulin for a period time?
or if u wan simpler terms, hyperglycaemiaOriginally posted by renorenal:Your sugar levels will go up, way up, and you will suffer from a condition called DKA (Diabetic Ketoacidosis) or HONK (Hyperosmolar Non Ketotic Coma) where you will have symptoms of abdominal pain, vomiting, nausea, headache, dizziness and diarrhea...
This is very dangerous as you will become dehydrated and depleted of your fluids in your body because of the rise in glucose in your body.
Glucose is an osmotic diuresis which draws fluid with them as they pass out from the body, hence if you have high glucose, you have more of these fluids being passed out leading to dehydration.
Not only that, your fluid and electrolyte will become imbalanced... When faced with such symptoms it is best to admit yourself, if not, coma is inevitable.
i have admit twice for that liao this year. but i have stopped my insulin a day or two due to too tired from work.Originally posted by renorenal:Your sugar levels will go up, way up, and you will suffer from a condition called DKA (Diabetic Ketoacidosis) or HONK (Hyperosmolar Non Ketotic Coma) where you will have symptoms of abdominal pain, vomiting, nausea, headache, dizziness and diarrhea...

yup theres one..... how come i have headache so often??? is it migraine??? cos i often really get stress alotOriginally posted by renorenal:Type 2 is genetic
Type 1 is usually not genetic... it is associated more with other autoimmune diseases like DM, thyroid disorders, hormonal disorders and other kidney problems...
Hmmm... so you have been having this problem for 6 years now?
Any questions you would want me to help you with?
Only Type 1 produces ketone... you sure it is Type 2?Originally posted by martin_lim85:yes there were. start taking only from this march... luckily cvould get free as i am nsf
i petty sure from type 2 as my nurse told meOriginally posted by renorenal:Only Type 1 produces ketone... you sure it is Type 2?
Type 1 is because your pancreas is depleted of endogenous insulin liau... Henceforth, the body will progress to use up other resources in the body such as fat and protein. By using fat, its breakdown products will produce ketone through a biochemical cycle.
Type 2 is that your pancreas can still produce, but your body receptors that receive glucose appears to be resistant towards the insulin, hence the glucose are not absorbed and utilized... leaving it circulating in the whole body... Ketones here would not be produced immediately as some of the receptors still responds, so glucose will appear first in the urine...
Having said that, I am more worried about your control...
Prior to assuming it is migraine... care to tell me more about your headache?Originally posted by martin_lim85:yup theres one..... how come i have headache so often??? is it migraine??? cos i often really get stress alot
no no no.Originally posted by renorenal:Are you also a medically related health personnel?
