Prostagladins (a bodily chemical) are the main cause for the symptoms of dysmenorrhea (painful menstruation). These are produced by the body and found in the uterine lining (also present in gastric mucosa).Originally posted by starblue:erm... excluding pills (i dun take them lah), wad are the more effective things i can do ah??? warm packs sometimes work only... other times, the pain goes on like they are bent on killing you....

No... this is not due to low blood pressure... this is called Raynaud's Phenomenon, assuming that your fingernails turns bluish as well, and then upon coming out from the air conditioned room and outside to a warm environment, it returns to normal...Originally posted by starblue:oh yah.. talking about being cold.. my fingers and toes are usually very cold in air con rooms.. it is due to a lower than usualy blood pressure right? how do you correct it???
Ok... for your case, it's highlighted in bold... in case you were wondering why prostaglandins have anything to do with contraction pains...Originally posted by starblue:erm.. dear Dr reno ah.. i know about prostaglandins lah....![]()
i had to take a really strong type of pain killers called vicodin, which can also be substituted for hydrocodone. this was due to a minor knee op, and it just starts hurting to bad at night, probably due to the pressure change. it hurt so bad at night i couldnt sleep at all for nights in a row until i gave up and decided to get pain killers from the doc.Originally posted by alexkusu:Actually I take i take ibuprofen for headaches..under the name Nurofen since i find panadeine n aspirin quite weak.
I think you are suffering from one of those conditions called seborrhoeic dermatitis where oil forms rapidly under a hot weather condition... there is a treatment for it, but you have to see a dermatology for the special treatment...Originally posted by alfagal:anyway e prob now is: jus cant find something to control e oil...
erm.. no, my fingers are bright red... lots of blood comes up to the capillaries and jsut stay there dumbly and lets the heat out... the body is supposed to constrict your capillaries entering the capillary beds so that less blood flows to the surface to reduce heat loss.. but mine does the opposite and that is why i wondered if it is due to low blood pressure...Originally posted by renorenal:No... this is not due to low blood pressure... this is called Raynaud's Phenomenon, assuming that your fingernails turns bluish as well, and then upon coming out from the air conditioned room and outside to a warm environment, it returns to normal...
Females are more prone in getting this and it is particularly prone to occur in places where the blood vessels are tiny. They blood vessels are sensitive to a change in environment, hence it goes into vasospasm and causing lack of blood perfusion to the distal part of the fingers and toes, leading to coolness, numbness and even bluish in color.
There is no treatment to give if it is not causing any discomfort.
yeah..but comes money prob..spent over 1K to slove my acne from last yr...Originally posted by renorenal:I think you are suffering from one of those conditions called seborrhoeic dermatitis where oil forms rapidly under a hot weather condition... there is a treatment for it, but you have to see a dermatology for the special treatment...
I may not be right with the diagnosis, but from your history, it sounds like that, I have a friend who has it, but the medication he has is just suffice to control his symptoms when the breakout happens...
Hmm... there is no pain at all?Originally posted by starblue:erm.. no, my fingers are bright red... lots of blood comes up to the capillaries and jsut stay there dumbly and lets the heat out... the body is supposed to constrict your capillaries entering the capillary beds so that less blood flows to the surface to reduce heat loss.. but mine does the opposite and that is why i wondered if it is due to low blood pressure...

Problem with skin disorders is that it is chronic and management of it costs a lot of money and a lot of time as well...Originally posted by alfagal:went to Gp first, but it got worst..cos i think e doxycyline wasnt strong enough..it got out of control le..then after that when i finished my exams i went to derm..(2 weeks in between)
my fingers just get super cold super quickly... (indeed, i often grab my friends arms and make them jump from their seats. lolz) and no matter what i do (rubbing hands together, drink warm drink, hot onto to warm water bottle etc), they get cold very soon after... and it's only at the finger tips(last segment), the palm not so cold... my toes the same thing....Originally posted by renorenal:Hmm... there is no pain at all?
I don't think it has anything to do with alterations in the blood pressure...
The fact about capillaries that you have explained is correct, but the thing is the capillaries in the fingers are substituted by endarteries (blood vessel with no endings), so it's characteristics may not be similar to those of the capillaries...
Tell me more about this symptoms...
90/55 mmHg is pretty low... well... cold is detected by the nerve endings in the skin and what happens is that the blood vessels will tend to counteract this by preserving more heat with vasoconstriction, the blood vessels in the fingers and toes are super-sensitive towards this change in temperature... But by implying vasoconstriction, that means your fingers would be pale... Yours being reddish means it is vasodilating...Originally posted by starblue:my fingers just get super cold super quickly... i've consulted other doctor friends and biologists. they all gave me diff answers also lah.. but the most common one is low blood pressure (i think i have lah).... but i also not sure how low the blood pressure must get to before this happens.. cos cannot be most females have low blood pressure mah...
my blood pressure is about 55/90 the last time i measured it...
exactly!! that is why i think it is low blood pressure mah.. the restricted blood flowing into the finger tips are slow in flowing back into the veins mah.... that is why the fingers are red... -_-" trust my body to mix things up.Originally posted by renorenal:90/55 mmHg is pretty low... well... cold is detected by the nerve endings in the skin and what happens is that the blood vessels will tend to counteract this by preserving more heat with vasoconstriction, the blood vessels in the fingers and toes are super-sensitive towards this change in temperature... So my next question would be:-
Is there anyone in your family who is having the same problem?
