  the "powder" is just scales from their wings falling off...
  
  they're harmless.. and they're pretty cool.. pollenates your plants for fruit and feeds the bats.. i think this one probably got lost or something..

  I prefer butterflies... moths don't really look that good... they like to fly into your nostrils and ears...
