clickin on the same window will highlight the whole page; clicking on the link will cause another window to open instead? -

If you click on my siggy to go to Tech support, it would open in a new window.
In the same sub-forum it won't happen.
Same for the forums listed in All Forums, Newest Topics and Top Forums. -

my mouse is now misbehaving.. it has 4 buttons and 2 scroll wheels...

sometimes, there is the mouse movement thingy which allows you to go back and forth from pages when you click and move the mouse -

Quite a few Logitech's mice has more functions than they are needed. If using IE, you can't force it to open in the same window.
If using other browsers, just right click and open in new tab so it won't open in new window. More troublesome, because usually scroll button does the trick. -
