Mouth ulcers...the causes are too numerous to cover here adequately..can do one lecture. The most common are apthous ulcers, which are the common round ulcers with a surrounding white or reddish rim. The cause is idiopathic in most instances...meaning we don't know why. People have suggested viruses, but not proven in most cases. Viruses such as HSV (the commone herpoes simplex) and varicella-zoster (chicken pox) can certainly cause mouth ulcers but not the common apthous ulcers that we have. It is most likely autoimmune but the the honest answer is that we dunno why.Originally posted by starblue:nothing private. tell me, how do mouth ulcers form? and i want details, as minute as possible. like, what exactly is that white circular thing made of, how did i form, things like that....
and while we're talking about aches, what exactly is muscle ache? the fibres are being pulled?? nerves perhaps? how do they subside. what (besides salonpas and yoko yoko) can help speed up the ache relieve?
oops...sorry..alfa jie old le..Originally posted by starblue:erm.. i believe it was my question.i'm a curious cat.

See my school mates play tennis like so easy, but when I tried, it's a headache.Originally posted by the Bear:my tennis backhand was better than my forehand..
the backhand, just follow the range which the arm can move, gives you a perfect topspin backhand

and while we're talking about aches, what exactly is muscle ache? the fibres are being pulled?? nerves perhaps? how do they subside. what (besides salonpas and yoko yoko) can help speed up the ache relieve? As for muscle ache, after badminton in this case, it is due to buildup of lactic acid that stimulates the nerves leading to sensation of pain. But if you do vigorous exercise without adequate warmup you can damage the muscle fibres...analogious to microscopic tearing of muscle fibres forced to hypercontact without adequate stretching ...damage to cells lead to leakage of muscle enzymes like creatinine kinase (rise after vigrous exercise) and stimulate release of various cytokines which stimulate the nerve endings and giving you sensation of pain. Obviously the buildup may take some time, so the aches can come later in the day or the next day...
what you've just said is basically what the websites said. but i wanna know the process of the formation of an ulcer, from the time the cause strikes to the perfect formation of the white disc. but wait, you said the white thing are inflammatory cells. are these cells alive? or are they like pus (with all its dead glory of cells which died in the immune battle)? when the ulcers subside, and the whiteness disappears, is it cos these cells are phagocytosized??Originally posted by oxford mushroom:Mouth ulcers...the causes are too numerous to cover here adequately..can do one lecture. The 'white circular thing' or can also be reddish ring around the ulcer is a zone of inflammatory cells (white) and vasodilation (red), often associated with some swelling. That's why it is painful...cos' it is an inflammatory lesion. As we teach our medical students, the classic signs of inflammation are rubor (redness), calor (heat), dalor (pain), tumor (swelling)..
There is some disturbance in the immune system, possibly related to a viral infection or unknown insults, resulting in inflammation and breakdown of the surface mucosa.
Nothing to do with height, though height will be an added advantage. For a smash to work, you need to be fast, plus a bit of angle work. I don't know how to explain, once you can get a smash, you will know what I mean. The way to do a smash and a shot that's straight and fast are a little different.Originally posted by starblue:talking about smash.... i can NEVER smash!! i dunno wad's wrong. all i can do is send really fast, straight balls. they always worked for me, but i never managed a smash... my bro says its cos i'm too short. -_-"" i am NOT short k?
i am short..but i jump if i want to attempt a smash..but i just drop shot...easier that wayOriginally posted by starblue:talking about smash.... i can NEVER smash!! i dunno wad's wrong. all i can do is send really fast, straight balls. they always worked for me, but i never managed a smash... my bro says its cos i'm too short. -_-"" i am NOT short k?

Height is added advantage. Short people can smash well, it depends on techniques.Originally posted by StarPuppy:in order to smash

I am not very tall too...that puts us at a disadvantage...you have to jump high to smash...can become rather tiring.Originally posted by starblue:talking about smash.... i can NEVER smash!! i dunno wad's wrong. all i can do is send really fast, straight balls. they always worked for me, but i never managed a smash... my bro says its cos i'm too short. -_-"" i am NOT short k?
i dun quite agree with the lactic acid explanation... i tot the aches triggered by lactic acid build-up is immediate to after the vigorous exercise and is quickly dissipated after you've repaid your oxygen debt? so i dun think that explains the continued and delayed muscle aches we experience after hard exercise.Originally posted by oxford mushroom:As for muscle ache, after badminton in this case, it is due to buildup of lactic acid that stimulates the nerves leading to sensation of pain. Cytokines and inflammatory mediators do have a half life and degrade with time...damaged muscles can also repair..and symptoms will resolve with time.
What is salonpas and yoko yoko?
