  putting tremendous strain on my notebook and the external HDD
  
  downloading The Grateful Dead onto my external HDD, downloading a documentary onto my notebook HDD, backing up a couple of movies from my external HDD, and all this, with a HDD that my notebook tells is going to die, and parts that overheat like mad and need an external fan to keep it cool

  liquid nitrogen will probably turn your cells brittle as ice forms where the water was... killing the cells and the appendage falls off

  I have not seen solid nitrogen, I don't know. But I've seen liquid nitrogen, don't play with it. You want to see things melt, pour liquid nitrogen on them.
