From what I can surmise, a lightning rod is supposed to be made of tough low-electrical resistance material in order for it to be an attractive target for lightning to strike.
I would say that they are made of some aluminium alloy. Copper has a lower resistance, but it's more expensive and has lower yield strength. -
Nah... saw the news pictures. They stole the square thingy, leaving the metal stripes. And the stripes are bent. They sure are are strong.
