And if that $10 watch is a counterfiet of a Rolex watch , woni't the designer of that watch feels discourage ? Imagine you , yourself , design a dame nice watch and an Ah Beng and Ah Seng go and copy your watch design and sell it at a cheaper price.
I once saw a 13 to 16 year old boy , bought a Ralph Lauren Shirt (Cotton mesh abt $60+) and a Ralph Lauren Cap (Abt $55) .. somemore , his parents is not with him ..
I was there with my GF and the total price is $100+ ...
So , should I feel envy or distured by this boy ?
a shirt that is 60 bucks is still within the acceptable range for me.... it's something that u wear and is prominent. and it feels comfortable. and its probably durable as well.....

I don't have watch too. I guess watch is just a status symbol. If you wear those glittered with diamond, or those tourbillon or minute repeater range, those with moon phase or calender range, you can be considered rich. But what is the point? flaunting your wealth...
But some of them can be considered investment though. Some of the watches are limited edition and only available 3 or 4 pieces worldwide. Over time when the creator passes away, the watch will appreciate in value. It took a lot of time for the creator to make it - it is handmade, not those machine made but who cares... 
Do you know that the more expensive the watch (ie those tourbillon range or minute repeater range that can easily cost >$100k) the faster it spoil?
You have to take care of it
wear it gently
cannot drop it on the floor
cannot move your hand so fast (ie the watch is not shock resistant)
cannot drop it in water (some of them can but you have to check)
I think the list is still very long
The mechanical balance/spring in those watches are very fragile. If you do anything of the above and cause the balance/spring to spoil, be prepare to pay at least another 4 digits sum to get it repaired (if you are lucky that it can be repaired)
Otherwise, buy another one -

Some people who are richer will have a different 'acceptable range' than yours mahx.
E.g:
$100 Chicken Rice (Just the rice and chicken) maybe considered CHEAP to a wealthy man. But a $1000 Chicken Rice maybe considered EXP to that wealthy man too.
So it's the mindset that you have. Whether it's exp or cheap. Just like what you had said , the acceptable range.

So If we are poor, we should just work hard to get more money and at the same time save money too.
If you want to buy an expensive watch, but those that at least can appreciate in value. If you buy those that are just so-so, you will find out that when you want to sell your watch, the value is probably only 30% - 50% of the price of the watch. You can see these in eBay.
Not worth the money. might as well buy cheap one. -

I think it's alright to spend $200+ on a watch. A good quality dress watch.
I suppose the way I think about it is that I prefer the things I own not to spoil so easily and quickly. I also prefer my things to be repaired, rather than just throwing away something cheap.
Just like... when you buy food, you can buy cheap food, good food, and then you can buy delicacies. Compare this with : $10 watches, $200 watches, and $5000 watches. ^_^ -
