Dangerous temperature range for a car engine

I would like to pose these questions to the experienced drivers here:
What temperature range for the car engine is considered to be already at a 'dangerous' level?
If the needle of the temperature gauge is at the half way mark, is it still considered safe to keep on driving?

I presume you are refering to the oil temp found on the dashboard of most cars. Under normal conditions, the needle is usually at the middle or slightly under. But if the needle has suddenly gone up, its better to pull to the side and call for assistance as your car is overheating. Do not attempt to remove the oil cap - its gonna be very hot, turn the car off and call for assistance. I have an oil temp gauge in my car and the oil temp has gone up to 120deg before whilst the dashboard oil temp is still showing normal operating temp. if the needle goes centre or more than 3/4 then that will be dangerous already...

Such issues, like maintaining a safe oil temperature might be trivial to most of us but I think it is important that we know how to handle such situations if it happens.

Ya agreed. I tried once before when the oil temp shoot to almost max...scary but still managed to drive the car to the workshop before anything else happen. Heng ah...
Later found out that the fan is not working and the radiator spoilt that cause the problem.

As long as it dont hit RED zone, should be fine. But u better go and get it fix if the temperature raised over the normal temperature of the car.
kops21 have drove to almost RED when in Malaysia..no choice festive season on the toll...drive almost 3-4hrs per day with that and survive...

Actually, you should know the usual needle location of the car and once there is any unusual movt upwards, you should really get it checked. Something is not functioning right in your car.
