read a forum posting from a owner that he spent thousands just on the repairs.....this i s kinda holding me back from buying a old car...
You should be mentally prepared to spend thousands if you really wanna get an EG6 up to a good condition, unless you're really, really lucky to find one in good condition. Most have been in major accidents and not repaired properly.
I've been lookin for good one a while ago, but cannot find. Be careful of sellers' claims, coz they sometimes claim "no accident" even when I can see that the engine bay's been hit before. And the engines' are bad even at idle...
Else, if you really wanna get but on tight $ for repairs, just prioritise with the big faults repaired and live with aittle faults here and there...
It's a great and beautiful car, man, I love it, but some of them can really be a big mistake to buy.
BTW, obvious ways you can tell an EG5 and EG6 apart:
1) EG5 stock rear seats have head rests, EG6 stock rear seats doesn't
2) EG5 SOHC engines are smaller and have spark cables running along the font side only of the valve cover, while EG6 spark cables run along the middle of the valve cover and have "DOHC" printed on it.
3)EG6 rear seats have a more angular wheel arch protruding inwards, while the EG5's wheel arch intrusions are smoother.
Good Luck, Hope this helps, and that you find a good EG6...
