I drove the old 4-door swift from 1994 - 2000 and later handed it over to my younger brother after he got his license.. It was scrapped begining of this year and I must admit it is a good car without having a single major repair (excluding those wear and tear maintenance) throughout it entire life span with us. I always send it to Champion motor for servicing and i believe there is a petrol kisok at Hougang which is also an authorized workshop... but this is common practise - Honda has some petrol kisoks authorized as their maintenance workshop.Originally posted by noot:hi, buying my first car and can't decide between the nissan march or the new suzuki swift.... have narrowed down to this two as i like both designs and their prices are within my budget
anyone driving the march or the old swift has any comments?
what are the pros and cons of nissan and suzuki?
which will be better car to buy in the long run? (eg. maintenance, fuel consumption, etc)
is it true suzuki repairs and maintenance are done by third party?
thanks!
The engine setup maybe different but the mechanism working on the valve will be the same depending on when it will kicks in... the engine used on this Swift is also the same engine used on the SIS - M15A except it is detuned decreasing the power slightly but the max torque comes in slightly early at 4000 RPM.Originally posted by free4ever:Anyone knows Suzuki VVT technology is similar or related to Toyota VVT-i engine in anyway?![]()
I am not sure if Nissan is really a VVT engine given the development a car manufacturer has to invest before getting one working... there is not without reason when car manufacturer claimed they have a VVTi, VTEC, i-VTEC, FSI, Twinsparks and a lot more sort of code... even the latest facelifted sunny on the road also advertised with a CVVT... but the 1.6L auto fuel consumption is still terrible...Originally posted by KamenRider:the new March K12 has VVT engine as well. what nissan quietly put in as standard others ring bells and whistles and make big deal about it.
if you compare the specs of both cars in a level playing field, the March beats the swift hands down.
as for size, it is always a visual misiconception that the March is smaller, in actual fact it is not, and the interior is definitely more than spacious. check out the specs and reviews by the authoritative reviewers.
As for interior, not sure about swift, but the March is definitely a rolls royce of the minis. do you have 6 air bags, ABS, EBD, Brake assist (passive and active safety measures), keyless entry & ignition, auto lighting and speed sensing wiper? just to name a few. you dont get these even in much more ex cars.
this new March won the 2003 Automotive Designers award held in Paris given by 100 over designers and professionals, enough said about looks.
as for engine, it gives out 98bhp for this 1.4L engine, sure beats many in its class.
anyway i think noot has already chosen a March.
the new march is renault clio platform. the engine is designed from scratch with pistons made of all new light weight alloy and it is somewhat not so related to the traditional nissans. so if you check out the detailed specs, it is VVT engine and the FC is commendable.Originally posted by manualisbetter:I am not sure if Nissan is really a VVT engine given the development a car manufacturer has to invest before getting one working... there is not without reason when car manufacturer claimed they have a VVTi, VTEC, i-VTEC, FSI, Twinsparks and a lot more sort of code... even the latest facelifted sunny on the road also advertised with a CVVT... but the 1.6L auto fuel consumption is still terrible...
The latest March is no longer the luxury version it used to be but a lower grade model since the "luxury" price is not selling well as what TanChong has wanted to be...
Still i am not sure if it is the VVT engine since nothing on web was ever mentioned. On the other hand, i must agreed that the FC is very good.Originally posted by KamenRider:the new march is renault clio platform. the engine is designed from scratch with pistons made of all new light weight alloy and it is somewhat not so related to the traditional nissans. so if you check out the detailed specs, it is VVT engine and the FC is commendable.
the new marches come in Elegance and Comfort models, one is higher end than the other. both are still alive and selling today. have been like that all these while. In fact todays Elegance is higher specs than earlier shipments cos it wanted to be more competitive, esp due to the price drop.
i own the Elegance and pple are still buying it.
2 sites here talk about VVT in the march:Originally posted by manualisbetter:Still i am not sure if it is the VVT engine since nothing on web was ever mentioned. On the other hand, i must agreed that the FC is very good.
The latest Latio Sports and Sedan is also using a new engine which Nissan and Renault works together. You can find the spec. on web on Nissan global... But then again, nothing was mentioned on a VVT engine except a 20% better improvement over the old Sunny 1.5 engine.
What is your FC on your Auto March now?
